-a seer is a sacred prophet -
You know those days when nothing goes right?
When you have that looming feeling that something bad is going to happen?
You don’t know what is going to happen just that something will.
It drives you crazy. Like a fly buzzing around your head. That ringing just gnaws away at you.
And the wondering, and the wondering, and the wondering drives you nuts because
You have no choice but to go about your day
Until suddenly BAM! It hits you like a brick in the face.
You don’t have the answer just pieces. Little puzzle pieces slipping through your fingers
You still don’t know exactly what is coming.
You just know it’s horrible.
And it’s here.
Aubrey woke up in a bad mood. Their head hurt and there was a ringing in their ears. It just felt like an off day. Which, in their experience, meant their psychic senses were tingling. Great. The day dragged or maybe Aubrey was just in a really shitty mood. Their emotions kept changing and shifting. One minute they felt nothing, the next everything. On and off. All day. It was exhausting. Something was coming.
Aubrey just didn’t know what or when.
In an effort to cheer themselves up, Aubrey took a trip to Hogsmeade. More specifically to Honeydukes. The eccentric environment of the store would cheer anyone up but especially them. The candy didn’t hurt either. And maybe indulging on some sweets would make Aubrey feel better or at least the stomachache would distract them.
Aubrey walked around the store, eyeing all of the candy at their disposal. Sugar quills, peppermint toads, crystallized pineapples, and no melt ice cream. Strawberry, of course. It was enough of a distraction to make them forget their off day. And for those few moments, Aubrey spent wandering the store, they felt normal. Well, as normal as a seer could feel.
“All set, dear?” They made their way up to the cashier register and beamed at the worker. Everyone was always so nice here. Aubrey dumped the handful of candy onto the counter and waited patiently as she checked them out. “Looks like you found sweets to last you for a couple of weeks.” Little did she know, Aubrey planned to eat themselves into a sweets coma as soon as they left the store.
“Just stocking up,” Aubrey replied with a grin. “It’s never good to be out of sweets, right? Oh, hang on...” They caught a glimpse of a hundreds and thousands bar to the left of the register. Aubrey wondered if that was still Cass’ favorite candy bar after all of these years. “Can you please add this on?”
Popping a piece of crystallized pineapple into their mouth, Aubrey made their way out of the shop and into the streets of Hogsmeade. Having a little field trip had helped them feel better. More clear. Aubrey’s head wasn’t feeling fuzzy any longer. No more ringing in their ears. Thank Merlin for that. The walk definitely had done them some good.
Aubrey didn’t make it down the street before that feeling came back.
Somber. Hollow. Darkness. Power.
Aubrey looked up to see if it was possible to pinpoint who it was coming from. But when they glanced around, Aubrey could sense it from many people walking through the town. They couldn’t even get an estimate on how many. The box of candy fell from their hands. Aubrey didn’t move to pick it up right away. No, they were frozen in place by the emotions wrapping around their psyche. Clouding their mind. Aubrey was choking on the feeling of darkness surrounding them there in the middle of Hogsmeade.
They couldn’t breathe. They couldn’t think. They couldn’t move.
“You dropped this,” A firm voice pulled Aubrey out and the box of pineapple was being pressed into their hands. Aubrey turned to the person. Couldn’t see their face over their hood. Was that weird? They didn’t have time to dwell on it. Fingers nudged against their own and Aubrey gasped, snapping their hand back as if they had touched a burner.
No. No. No. It was too much to bear. Too much to feel. So much darkness. So much power. It was too much. It hurt. It hurt. It hurt so much. A tear fell from their eye. Then another. And another.
Snap out of it. Aubrey blinked and brought a hand up to their cheek to wipe away the wetness. The box of crystallized pineapple along with the rest of their candy fell to the ground. Aubrey blinked again and the stranger who approached them was gone.
Somber. Hollow. Darkness. Power.
It wasn’t as strong as it was before. It was fading but it still lingered in Aubrey’s mind. They felt it all over. Every inch of their body. As if they were part of the darkness. It ate away at the Ravenclaw. It was all they felt. And even as Aubrey made their way slowly back to the dorms, it didn’t completely go away. It still lingered around them.
And Aubrey realized right there, standing in front of the Ravenclaw dorms, that they still felt it because it was here.
It had already spread to the university.
