At one point, tango “vals”, danced in 3/4 time, gain so much popularity in Buenos Aires that some dances played almost all vals. You can see why with the melodies creating such a lively and moving texture. Here’s one of our favorites written by Juan D’Arienzo in 1936 for his orchestra.
