Milonga del Ángel - Orquesta Z (2019)

The great Astor Piazzolla wrote Milonga del Ángel in 1984. Often recorded, this is our take of Yo-Yo Ma’s 1997 version with Kathryn Stott on his album “The Soul of Tango”.

Orquesta Z is a San Francisco non-profit formed in 2013, which performs classic Argentine tangos to modern and new compositions in order to spread the joy of this unique and beautiful, internationally-loved music and dance.

AMURADO was composed in by Pedro Laurenz and Pedro Maffia in 1927.  This version was recorded by the San Francisco-based tango sexteto Orquesta Z in 2011 in the manner of the Laurenz orchestra’s original 1940 record.

Watashi - Orquesta Z (2017) como Taro Wakase and Forever Tango (2001)

I arranged this piece for my San Francisco-based tango sextet Orquesta Z after watching a tango troupe perform to it last week:  Watashi, by violinist Taro Wakase, was originally composed in 1997, and performed by the Forever Tango Orquestra in 2001 in Osaka.
