Y/N thought about the ethical side of Druig putting Thena to sleep while Gilgamesh takes a vacation, but she decides to just shrug it off for now, remain indifferent to it. Even with Gilgamesh's strength and capacity for a whole arena of things, taking care of Thena while she's sick can take a toll on him after thousands of years.
She stands by the door of Thena's room while Druig does his magic with Gilgamesh supervising it. The stronger man sits by Thena's bed, holding her hand, as Druig stands next to him and gains enough power to enter the goddess' mind.
Thena and Gilgamesh have separate houses, as it turns out, which was much to Y/N's surprise. But she supposes that it's for safety measures, both hers and Gil's. She doesn't know what it's like for Thena to have mad weary, nor how it is for Gilgamesh to be around her, live with something inside Thena that he doesn't really understand. Mad weary is unpredictable, incurable and very unexplored. There are no methods written down or generally known that Gilgamesh could find and use. It's just a matter of waiting and always being prepared for the worst.
Y/N sees the moment Thena is put to deep sleep. Her whole body relaxes, her head lays on the pillow under it much heavier than before, and she exhales a deep breath. Her breaths grow quieter and slower. This took Druig a couple of minutes to do, and he's still working on her. Gilgamesh looks to Druig, and so does Y/N.
“How long will that give her?” He asks in a whisper, scared that he'll wake Thena up with his voice. Druig sighs courtly.
“She can't hear you, don't worry,” Druig tells him, a comforting hand slapping down on Gilgamesh's shoulder. The man looks at his woman, “if a volcano was erupting right next to your house, she wouldn't hear it. I reckon this will be enough to last through your vacation.” Druig looks at Gilgamesh. He stands up, still looking at Thena.
“I really appreciate this, Druig,” he tells him, still in that whispered voice, and Y/N smiles to herself. Gil's worry for Thena is thick. Druig just pats his friend's shoulder as the three of them begin walking out of the room. Gilgamesh leads them outside of the house, back into the blazing sun, as Y/N looks once again over the tens of drawings hung around Thena's house. They all seem to be depicting the same thing, more or less.
“Got everything you need in there?” Y/N gently pokes Gil's bag filled with necessities. Gilgamesh sighs, looking into Thena's house still.
“Everything but her,” he admits, to which Y/N's heart lurches in her chest. She looks to Druig, and their eyes connect. She knows it's gonna be hard for Gilgamesh to really enjoy his trip to Fiji, because he's leaving Thena at home. But it'll be good for both of them.
Y/N looks into his eyes, and they flash a momentary silver as she transponds the feeling of relief and excitement to him, just to make him feel better. Druig looks at her in wonder, and softly grins to himself. Gilgamesh sighs, but with a slight smile on his lips this time. “Got any rules for us before we leave?” Y/N asks him, her arms now crossed over her chest.
Gilgamesh scratches his head. “Uh,” he looks for words to say, “well, put things back in their place after using something.” He begins. “And please always be in her house during the night. It’s the worst time for her—”
“Gil, she’s not gonna wake up,” Druig assures, “I promise.” He nods for effect. Gilgamesh looks at him as he tries hard to believe his words.
“Well, if you say so,” he shrugs, “but still. Keep an eye on her, don’t go anywhere far for longer than an hour or so. There’s some money under the kitchen floor—don’t be afraid to take as much as you need. I hardly need any of it, anyway.” Gilgamesh chuckles. “And don’t burn the house down.” Y/N laughs. “Maybe just order food on the line, like you can nowadays.”
“Do you have a telephone line?” Y/N questions with amused suspicion.
“No, what for?” Gilgamesh responds, genuine obliviousness in his eyes. Y/N laughs some more, this time with Druig joining her. Gilgamesh looks between the two.
“We know how to cook, Gil, we’re not that bad,” Y/N swiftly changes the conversation topic, “won’t burn your house down, we promise.” She assures.
“Oh, good, cause promises work wonders,” Gilgamesh says, but then takes his bag and lifts it over his shoulders with ease. Y/N shakes her head with a gentle smile on her features, “I’ll see you two in three or four weeks, then.” He begins his parting words.
The two nod, looking confident in their abilities to stay here unsupervised, supervising Thena. “Have a good vacation, Gil,” Druig wishes him.
“You deserve it.” Y/N states and pats his chest. Gilgamesh nods.
“Thanks, guys,” he says and turns around, getting on his way. His Hawaiian print shirt slightly moves in the wind as he walks, and Y/N smiles wide at the sight of their friend. He certainly takes the word vacation seriously. And good for him. He looks like the definition of the word. A small hat on his head, that Hawaiian shirt combined with white trousers—he’s good to go.
Druig and Y/N watch Gilgamesh walking away, getting smaller and smaller in their line of vision as he gets further away. “Is he really going to walk all the way to the airport?” Druig mutters the question that’s been sitting on both their minds. Y/N bursts out laughing, and Druig watches her do so with delight on his features. It’s a pretty sight to see.
“I think he’s going to walk to Fiji, actually,” she admits, and it makes them both laugh even harder. Y/N squats down, closer to the sandy ground, and looks around the scorched place. She’s dying to get her sunglasses from her bag, the sun is making her squint much more than she’d like to, “so, what d’you wanna do now?” She looks up at Druig. He shrugs in response, and then crouches down next to her. “Careful, you’re gonna get your medieval pants dirty,” she warns him, but Druig just throws his hand at her in a careless manner, bending his legs under himself to sit pretzel style on the ground. The cost of sitting next to her is ruining the pants he can replace anytime. The sand and rocks of all sizes crunches under him. She laughs again.
“He doesn’t have television, does he?” Druig asks, looking at Y/N with genuine eyes. She snorts.
“Gil doesn’t have a telephone line, and you think he has a TV?” She clarifies with a chuckle.
“I hope to think he has one,” Druig says, “well, anyway, I think one of us should go to the shops. I saw your car parked by his house.” He looks to her cheekily. Y/N nods.
“I’ll flip you for it,” she says with a wink, “if you know how to drive a car, that is.”
“Cheeky girl, of course I do,” Druig pushes back and gives her shoulder a slight nudge with his elbow. Y/N laughs and shoves him right back. She glances momentarily at him after the slight action, and catches his face alight with laughter. She swears he could light up a room with his smile. How his eyes squint closed and his cheeks rise up with ribbons for dimples in them. The sight of him laughing could alone be one of the seven wonders of the world, “do you even have any coins to flip?”
Y/N shoves his leg with her foot, “I do, mister.” She responds, and looks over his frame. The leather jacket, that also is very much of the times, fits him well, fits his whole look well. Surprisingly, it even looks good with his trousers that scream medieval times. Though it's already dusted by the sand. “Why do you wear that leather jacket? It’s like a hundred degrees right now, with the sun shinin’ and all.”
Druig shrugs. “I don’t feel the heat much,” he admits, “so far I kinda love it. Much different from the weather I'm used to.” Druig looks at Y/N with a gentle shake of his head.
“Oh, I bet,” she says, “so what do you want from the store?”
“Don’t you need somewhere to write it all down?”
Y/N gives him a look. “I’ll memorise all your hair products, don’t worry, Dru,” she teases, “how d’you think I became a therapist in the first place?” She chuckles. “I didn’t cheat. I wanted to study it all.”
“Oh, alright then,” Druig looks genuinely and pleasantly surprised. He brings his knees up and locks his hands around them, resting his chin on top. His eyes look at the desert land, “I don’t need anythin’, to be honest. Gilgamesh said there’s a lot of food stocked in his basement—I guess he was preparin’ for me staying, anyway.” Druig shrugs, and then looks at Y/N again. “Just get yourself whatever you need. Oh, and,” he touches her arm before she moves to stand up, “some crisps would be nice. And cola.” He smiles at her in his adorable childish way when he wants something.
Y/N smiles widely back at him. “Maybe some new pants, too?” She suggests, to which Druig shakes his head in giving up. Y/N laughs, but stands up and dusts her dress off. Her white adidas are sure to never be white again after this small vacation, she’s sure of that.
“I’ve packed my own, thank you very much,” Druig says as Y/N glances down at her wristwatch to see the time. She sees not only that, but a notification pops up that blanks her mind for a mere few seconds, and she looks to Druig immediately after, sure that he’s said something to her. Only she can’t remember what it was. The man is smiling up at her. She returns the gesture.
“I’ll be back in a few hours, probably around the evening,” she says, “it’s quite far off, the closest store. How’d you get here, anyway?”
Druig shrugs. “Walking, mostly.” He admits mysteriously and Y/N suppresses her grin. Sure you did.
“Right, I’ll see you later,” she says for parting words and begins walking towards her car. Druig nods, knowing she can’t see it, but having nothing really to say to her. That far-away look in her eyes has kept him quite occupied for the time being. But he watches her as she walks, her beautifully embroidered linen dress flowing in the wind like bed sheets drying in a yard. It reminds him of home. Not only the one he created for himself and the Babylonian people in the Amazon forest, but also of the one he knew with her, and with the other Eternals.
