This one is for Halsey fans who are interested in visitbadlands.com

A friend from Eroda (@loustyles) asked me to look into this cryptic promo project so here’s what I’ve got.

On the website there is a typewritten letter. At the end of the letter is this sign off.

The word “LOVE”, highlighted in red, leads to a website called “lxxxxxp.com”

Also note the 5 periods following the text “FIVE YEARS”

The observation that I made is that the commas and periods in the letter are exceptionally bold. This made me think that perhaps the letter had encoded a message in morse code. 

In morse code, 5 is spelled with five consecutive dots. 

This was enough to make me believe there might be something to this idea and so I converted the entire letter into morse code. I only looked at commas and periods. The letter also contained one semicolon and one question mark. I interpret the semi-colon as the first break in the code. The question mark falls just before a paragraph break, so I interpret it also as signifying a break in the code (and likely the end of a phrase, but we will get to that.) 

(note: In morse code, dashes are long tones and periods are short tones. That is why I have converted the commas to dashes and left the periods as dots.)

Here is the code that I transcribed. Please feel free to use this however you want and be sure to check my work!

(note: each / is a space. I’ve placed these spaces wherever there is a line break in the letter.)

I then put this code into a morse code translator. 

Note the transmission tower logo the website uses and the similarity it bares to the the one seen above on the visitbadlands.com website.

I experimented with different ways of breaking up the code, but none seemed to give me a coherent message. I strongly encourage you to try to interpret it in your own way. As a fan of Halsey, you might better recognize things she would include in a message.

However, despite not having a translation, this morse code can be played as a sound. Halsey is a musician, so I figure that she might have turned a snippet of a song or an upcoming song into morse code and then encoded it in her letter. Why not.
