Visit Davao, Tuloy ang Biyahe Experience
To start off, I am not from Davao ergo a Dabawenyo. I am actually what we call a “probinsyano”. After I graduated in high school in my province, I envisioned myself studying in Davao that is why I decided to take my degree here for two reasons: independence and a chance to explore the city. Davao City, the land of promise… I could make a dozen books to describe the city and the whole experience that it brought to me. I have been living in Davao City for four years now and really had something to be amazed about. Even if you just got to have an overnight stay in the city, you could definitely feel how Davao introduces itself to people. Through different aspects and variables, Davao City has preserved its culture. For me, experiencing it through food, places to be visited and alongside the services found within the vicinity of Davao, the hospitality and wholesome of the city and with the people within it.
Culture is one of the most basic way of establishing an identity of a nation. Davao has a acquaint way attract visitors. The culture of Davao is basically divided into eleven indigenous tribes and has became as a metaphor of one expression to introduce to the bigger population, and that is being a Dabawenyo.
Celebrations of festivals and occasions are always filled with excitement and enthusiasm among the dabawenyos and I know most of it because I have always been a street goer, goes on food trips and a party animal (well, somewhere inside of me haha). For the past four years in Davao, I now know how to celebrate KADAYAWAN FESTIVAL in four different ways.
The first one is spent it on shopping and actually if you have to see in malls a big word that says SALE, that means it is a big big sale where prices on products have big cuts and not only that, you could find good valuable products are also seen in the streets in Davao which are antiques and modernize cultural figurines and other stuff. Second, spent on watching and witnessing the “Indak-indak sa kadalanan” where different groups representing tribes with big colorful props and energetic dance moves make you kinda be part of the performance. Next, is for party goers, spent kadayawan on having fun under the laser lights on parties that makes you jump all night until 2am (which is the point of being how order things Davao can get and how they assure the safety of the people who attends the those kind of events) and lastly spent it with people who wants to unwind at Island Garden City of Samal with water adventures that sure would beat the heat. And I think that I get how to do this in much more fun way.
In Food, Dabawenyos sure know how a feast should be, a table with food like puzzle pieces that is in need to be completed in a way you could say that everything is there from foods that is from and to the foods that once was in the sea and a feast for Filipinos especially for Dabawenyos will never be complete without Rice, a tons of it. Not only in food does Dabawenyos introduce its core value but also some foods should be eaten right, like literally right. This makes it two things come together and it’s eating the food and learning how to and I think that’s cool. For example; “Sea Urchins” (which I never tried in my province but did tried it here in Davao) “Hito” (which is my far most learning experience for me which I’ve known that is cooked in two ways but it is cooked in a million ways in Calinan) and a lot more I could give about but this would turned out to be long. But in all to summarize, Foods in Davao is a way to adventure for the tongue.
Entertainment in Davao City is the most highlighted assets that most of the people find it more inviting especially at night, the nightlife. I would have to describe nightlife in Davao City as one of the most formal night. I don’t drink but I do need experience what nightlife is as a normal collegiate who has friends that can be so persuasive and bring the whole new definition of ‘peer pressure’. As I thought that I was going to spend the whole night drinking but didn’t happen as what I’ve imagined. Davao has a liquor ban which made myself relieved that I would end the night drunk. As explained the liquor ban goes like this; any establishment who still caters liquor after 1am will be notified and the business will be under probationary or worst, close for good. Also, davao established a smoking ban in which that person who are caught red-handed by authorities smoking within davao city will be fined a specific amount (thank goodness, I’m not a smoker) So yeah, having fun but in a classy way is what I am referring to this part about Davao City.
Approximately I have been to covering seventy percent on visiting the whole vicinity of Davao and I want to go further with what I want to discover, to experience and to go to and I don’t really have to be afraid on anything since Davao has emphasize on Safety, Secure and Assurance not only to visitors but for all of dabawenyos. Leading this enactment is Honorable Rodrigo Duterte and together within his administration. The rate of backpack travelers is actually increasing than travelling groups, it is because most of the backpack travelers find the best way to experience Davao itself by having to do it on feet and not on Itineraries and because of how secured Davao is.
Davao is not all urbanized and industrialized as you think (I know this because at first, it was my first thought about the city). Somehow Davao finds to allocate two parts on one place. They still have to take care of the environment and respond its demands and had put boundaries of how Davao is developing, mildly manipulating certain ecosystems and promote diversity of the environment. That is the “wow” factor of Davao is.
This part right here in my blog wants to say thank you for reading everything I know about Davao and how I experienced and learn about the city. I hope I did not bore you and I hope I gave justice to what you were expecting to read about, all of it. I know I may have given you not quite full details about the “davao experience” because I want you to experience it for yourself, to know what I’m talking because Davao, Life is here.
Visit Davao, Tuloy ang Biyahe Experience!
It was my first time to go away from my hometown last Summer 2015.I had to leave for my OJT which was held in Boracay and Manila. Even though Boracay is a beautiful place, it cannot beat the serenity and tranquility that my city has to offer.
You’ll truly appreciate things once you miss them and boy, when I came back home, I thank the heavens and Earth that God placed me in such a wonderful city. I cannot help but savor the clean air away from the smog in manila and the smoking puffs in Boracay not to mention stuffing my mouth with different kinds of fruits and seafood that in my city cost less than the two cities has to offer.

Though sometimes I miss the beach, with my city the beach is within reach! with just a boat away, you can easily reach Samal Island which houses different resorts and beach houses.

Where is this place you ask? HOHO! Davao City of course, the one and only! We aren’t only known for being the safest city in the Philippines, but also in the entire world. According to the user-contributed survey site, Numbeo.com, Davao ranked the 4th in being the safest city in the world. Imagine that! Who made it possible?? RODRIGO “RUDY” DUTERTE, our very own mayor! HORRAY! (with the help and cooperation of the citizens).
But although we one of the safest city in the world, some still mistake us for a place that’s dangerous because Davao city is part of Mindanao. Whenever somebody hears the word Mindanao, they automatically think it’s a place of war and much to my disappointment a “probinsya”. They make it sound like we don’t have any malls or establishments in our place. Why don’t I invite you to see Davao for yourself?
[OHA! shudi ka! kaganda ng davao oh. Bongga!]
Davao is known to be one of the fastest growing city in the Philippines and ranked 87th in the world. With this, you’ll see lots of Hotels and establishments popping up from place to place. Lots of investors from different countries come in and out of our city, making deals and making partnerships, which makes Davao a place for opportunities. Soon enough will be housing different high-end hotels, restaurants and establishments that Davao could be proud off. As of now we have numerous hotels and establishments, like Park Inn by Radisson situated at the back of SM Lanang, a new Mall offering green and eco-friendly features and architecture; Seda Hotel which is beside Abreeza Mall, the first Ayala Mall in Mindanao which boast its amazing verdant landscaping inspired by the rich culture in davao and the newly opened Felcris Centrale at Quezon Blvd. There’s also a rumor that the huge hectares of Land in Alcantara, formerly EcoWood Plywood factory, would be converted as a mixed-use commercial Development Project which means that it would be a commercial area as well as a residential area. We can expect another mall brewing up in this place and what excites me more is that this place actually has a shoreline, a mall with the view with the ocean perhaps? OH EM GEE!

For the proposed Development of the Alcantara-Ayala Project… this is how big the lot is..
Some Davaoenos even predict that the project will more or less look like this…
Talk about high end! I can’t wait for this project to finish, can you?
Apart from the bustling Industry that davao has, we Davaoe ň os also need our time for fun. Just Recently, Davao celebrated it’s 30th Kadayawan Festival. People worked hand in hand to make the celebration successful.
Even though Davao is known for having smoking and liquor ban, that surely didn’t stop the Davaoeňos to dance and sing their heart away on the Kadayawan Festival last August 2015. People from different cities, young and old, came to join us and celebrate our festival. Thanks to Manic Nightnings Production, Davao was introduced in the Party Scene. Just last 2013, Davao was starting to get familiar with Electronic Music Festivals and when 2015 came, parties from left and right started happening. Even with the liquor and smoking ban, we can still show people we can have a clean good fun. (or so they thought?) There were four parties that were being held on Kadayawan namely the Street Party, Invasion, Arcadia and Brazilika. Who would’ve thought that obedient and quiet davao knows how to party?
Davao is such a promising land. With different projects and bountiful resources handled by the right people, I am sure enough that this city would make it big. But for now, let us sit back and relax and enjoy what Davao has to offer. Truly Davao is a place to be.
