View from the ruins of Örestens Fästning outside the town of Skene in southern Sweden. Örestens fästning was a medieval stronghold built to defend the western border of Sweden in the 12th and 13th centuries. Many battles took place here, but nowadays the ruins are mostly covered by vegetation and only the hill itself, with a magnificent view of the surrounding valley, speaks of what has been here before.
