Have you ever had a visual migraine? I'm sitting at work watching my vision get worse as I try to find data across massive spreadsheets, hoping it clears sooner rather than later, knowing there's no point leaving work because I shouldn't drive anyway. What is an ocular migraine? / (See results)
An ocular migraine varies in its symptoms, depending on the person. It’s caused by the swelling of the blood vessels in the eye’s optic nerve, leading to visual distortions. Unlike standard migraines, ocular migraines are often not as painful, and the onset period is compared to looking through a kaleidoscope. It can include an aura that lasts about half an hour; if a headache follows, it’s usually within minutes to half an hour after the aura.

Like, for years I had no idea that the weird zigzag visual distortions I sometimes experience are called visual migraine. What kind of random bullshit is that?
The only reason why I even googled it was because one night the zigzagging filled my entire field of vision and made me effectively blind for a few minutes. One time it got that bad while I was walking the dogs and all I could do was “Well, I’m pretty sure I know in which direction my house is so I’ll just have to follow the paved road and hope my dogs keep me from going somewhere weird” The only reason why those of us who have this are even allowed in traffic is because it’s not a sudden blindness. We see it creep up on us and sometimes it goes away and sometimes we’re just blind for a little while.
And before people get worried about the pain, there’s none. It’s just called a visual migraine because of how it works.
But yeah, I just wanted to expand your knowledge about weird random stuff people can have in case you’d never heard of this. And admittedly, it’s a very low risk thing that isn’t sad or dangerous in itself, just meh and annoying. So feel free to give it to any character you just want to go blind for a little while for a completely none-dangerous reason that will come and go randomly.
