Sounded like the perfect holiday gift for this fowl he had gotten to know well. Maybe not well but, enough to know Steelbeak regular enjoyed his tea with honey. What if there was a 'little more' to that cup at the next tea time? "I wasn't expecting a gift exchange Steely but, I did manage to get you something special."
[[ Yes, it's what you think it is. ]]
Steelbeak rubbed his temple. He gave up on trying to avoid the pet name a long time ago when even his threats only provided a temporary solution. This had to be punishment for something he did to the guy, but what exactly, he couldn’t begin to guess.
His eyes widened at the mention of “something special,” though he was quick to stifle any expectations and hopes before they climbed too high. He wasn’t talking to his superiors about a pay raise, nor was he waiting for Darkwing Duck to wave a white flag and give Steelbeak a rare victory. At the same time, however, this wasn’t just some schmuck, but Zaps. This was a gift from his partner in crime and, admittedly, close friend, and that was enough for the rooster to look forward to whatever Megavolt would soon give. Knowing him, it was probably a recipe.
Instead, the little guy presented a funny-looking tray, which Steelbeak immediately recognized was made for a tea set. A wide smile lifted the corners of his beak.
“Would ya look at that. It’s even got bees to go with the honey,” he said, inspecting the dish further.
Not that he would say it aloud, but the tray was kind of cute. A tray full of happy little bees. Bees all over the tray.
A long pause turned the quiet room into suffocating silence. Steelbeak’s expression fell to the foreboding buzz of a hive of wasps.
“Zaps,” he sighed, “how long did you take to come up with this one?”
