“Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” William Prescott (February 20, 1726 – October 13, 1795) was an American colonel in the Revolutionary War who commanded the patriot forces in the Battle of Bunker Hill. As the British Army advanced in columns against the Americans, Prescott, in an effort to conserve the Americans' limited supply of ammunition, reportedly told his men, “Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” > Don't react to a situation too early.
