albertus 3
dust jacket designed by berthold wolpe for the book of essays prepared in honor of alfred fairbank on the occasion of his seventieth birthday [a.s. osley (editor), Calligraphy & Palaeography, faber&faber, london, 1965; my copy is the us edition published by october house, nyc, 1966—i presume the book uniform for both editions]. typesetting in wolpe’s albertus face—for more info & another wolpe jacket vide ‹albertus›. the image of the scribe is a detail from one—The Departure of the Ambassadors (2nd & 3rd illustrations)—in the cycle of nine paintings depicting the Legend of Saint Ursula by venetian painter vittore carpacci [c.1465-1525]. the paintings now hang in the gallerie dell’accademia in venice.
