Ohhhhhh the depression’s hittin hard today folks
coming back on here to say the succession nominations are so interesting………….
Succession is a show that’s anti-capitalist in message but subject to capitalism which results in some really cool tensions w society to analyze but not cool to see in practice 🫤 it’s a wonderful show, but the dick-riding for it from the real life wealthy white people is so overdone it’s comical (tragic)
The show is a great mirror of society, not only in how it’s depicted on screen. The jokes about Braun being a disgusting brother in real life are true and HBO’s silence on the issue is exactly how that would’ve been addressed in Succession. The self-congratulatory disproportionate focus on Succession as a masterpiece at the exclusion of other shows resulting in widely white actors getting lauded… the cancellation of the show bc its message was getting too loud for capitalism to ignore— nobody really wants to know the full truth about how crime & injustice keep operating in our society bc then we’d need to do something about it in real life.
I feel like the hunger games is another story that had a similar societal impact in that the Capitol focused on the love story more than the reality of making children kill each other for entertainment. Then in real life everything was about Team Peeta or Team Gale rather than focusing on Katniss and her life, they whitewashed her & removed many disabilities the characters had. It’s strange and sad to me how great works of art about society are churned up by the society that inspired them to exist. Do you think their messages are diminished or enhanced by the tensions they create within society ?
you know when i think about it love really changed me the most out of everything. all the traumatic shit i been thru, everything I’ve done and seen, nothing has made me more of a person I want to be than love. Last year I was writing and I thought love might be the willingness to grow with another and stay grown after they’ve gone. I think I’ve kept growing after they left too, in different directions and ways of course but it’s love that made me grow in the first place. I think that’s why I am so thankful and attached to my first real love even after two years apart because really, when I think about it, a lot of fucking shit changed in the past four years but nothing changed me more than somebody else loving me.
It was also a lot because he was genuinely the first person to truly love me, to know what love meant and express that towards me instead of abuse. The thing is I have had a lot of wonderful friendships that I consider to be loving yet romantic love has so much power over me… so anyways I’ll come back to this later when I’ve thought more things 😌 idk i be reflecting and shit 1 year after my great big breakdown
house does not equal home
july 19, 2016
sometimes, the house you live in does not feel like home. whether your parents had an argument, or you feel isolated, the house does not feel like home. the thing is, home doesn’t necessarily have to be a house. home is where you feel comfort, security, and serenity.
sometimes, i will sit on my very bed and feel cold, even with the blankets. but other times, standing in the middle of my kitchen with my mother will give me the warmest of feelings.
home, to me, is the people. do not mistaken house for home, a house isn’t a home until the people make it a home.
