HIGH PRIESTESS
"A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets." - Gloria Stuart The High Priestess is a card steeped in mystery. It shows us the spirituality and wisdom that lays beyond that which we can see, asking us to trust our instincts instead of that which we can see and just go with the flow. It points to the signs and symbols of the universe and suggests that we pay attention to them because there is a mystery there to be uncovered. This card tells us to rely on our intuition because there are many secrets to be unveiled if we trust our inner wisdom. This wise woman will enter our lives, show us our personal power and wait patiently as we open to our dreams and the sense of this larger reality. Now is not a time for action, instead it's a time to seek what is concealed. More will be revealed, so focus that attention on what the universe is telling you.
::Who's Who On This Card::
1. River Song from Doctor Who - From the first episode River appears in she is a bit of a mystery, though she won't tell us everything right away, because as she puts it... "Spoilers!" So we must wait patiently as more is revealed, piece by piece and episode by episode, as we grow more aware of the connections binding that universe.
2. Drusilla from Buffy - Drusilla is a vampire gifted with visions and psychic abilities. She had the talent to see beyond this reality into the next, allowing herself to be guided and receptive to the unknown. When the High Priestess appears in a reading, it reminds us of these worlds and what mysteries lay beyond too.
3. Scheherazade from One Thousand and One Knights - In One Thousand and One Knights, Scheherazade was the young bride of the Sultan. Every night, the Sultan would take a new bride and then kill her when the morning came so that they never had a chance to hurt him. So Scheherazade concocted the plan to tell him a story that first night, leaving off on a cliffhanger so that he would keep her alive until the next night since he grew more curious to the ending. Her secrets kept her alive, as he begged her to reveal more and more each night.
4. Vivanne from Mists of Avalon - As the Lady of Avalon in the book series and movie, Vivanne is a very strong priestess who not only works with magic and follow the Goddess herself but also influences Morgaine to become more intuitive herself. The High Priestess often appears in our readings when we are asked to foster that connection to the magic of the universe and to our intuitive selves.
5. God from Dogma - God in Dogmas doesn't speak, she is a complete enigma and only appears in the last scene of the movie. When Bethany asks her what the meaning of life is, God just boops her on the nose. She moves in mysterious ways and perhaps we are not ready yet to know what that "boop" means. There is always that sense of the unknowable with the High Priestess.
6. Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas - In the movie, Grandmother Willow helps Pocahontas see the truth within her dreams and reminds her, "All around you are spirits, child. They live in the earth, the water, the sky. If you listen, they will guide you." The High Priestess will point you towards that which you may want to listen to and all the wonders of the spirit world around you.
