Vivienne Appreciation Week: Remembering Bastien
I once read a bit about how women of colour are rarely allowed to be portrayed as soft in the media, and are instead expected to be strong and hard and suffer in silence. Which is shite. And I’ve also seen that some in the DA fandom think of our dear Madame de Fer as being cold, because of the strength she shows. Which is also shite.
SO for Vivienne Appreciation Week, I wanted to honour a different sort of strength combined with the softness so often denied characters such as Vivienne, by drawing her reminiscing about her true love, Duke Bastien. I loved how fondly she spoke of him, and how tender she was when he lay dying. And when he was gone I just wanted to give her a hug ;A; I imagine she must miss him terribly, but Vivienne is too strong to give up so easily. No matter what happens to her, she rises from the ashes like a phoenix--so I drew one on her head-dress. Even if she remembers his death with tears in her eyes, I imagine she always pairs it with a fond smile for all of their happy times together ❤

A Slipper Made of Glass
“My dear, I must have misheard you,” Vivienne said, as she tried to keep as still as possible in her lounge seat, the last of the day’s sunlight streaming into her balcony. The Inquisitor sat across from her, with sketchbook and charcoal in hand. “You said Cendrillon’s shoes were made of what in Nevarra?”
“Dragon scales, no kidding,” Opal Adaar said, looking up just briefly, eyes intensely focused before going back to the sketchbook, “I’d sing the ballad there and the kids would be all ‘No, not gold, dragon scales!’ I’d sing it Antiva and they’d say ‘No, not fur, gold!’”
“Would it be correct to guess that the slippers are made of fur in Ferelden?”
Opal chuckled. “Yep.”
“Of course.” Vivienne sighed, allowing the slightest adjustment in her pose to make herself more comfortable. If Opal minded, she did not make it known.
“And then,” Opal continued, looking Vivienne in the eye with a smirk, “They’re glass in Orlais. I think I like that one best.” She put the charcoal down, squinting at the sketchbook. “Alright, done.”
“That’s because you don’t entirely lack taste.” Vivienne stretched her legs out, like a cat after a afternoon nap, and brought them forward. Opal handed her the sketchbook, and on the page was Vivienne’s likeness, head held high and regal, the sun’s lighting defining her features.
“You are improving.” Vivienne nodded.
Opal sat back in her seat, slouching and crossing her legs. “Thanks.”
“Back straight, my dear, we still have tea to practice.”
“Shit, right.” She sat back up again, her size far more obvious than her usual, defensive slouch would let on.
Their tea sat on the table between them, having long gone cold, by now a tradition of their sessions together. They each took their cup and saucers, delicate and decorated with dainty swirls and gold trimming, and in their hands steam began to rise from their cups. They sipped, each of them quiet.
“Do they have those in Orlais, though?”
Vivienne raised an eyebrow, “You have to be more specific, Opal.”
“Glass shoes.” She looked at Vivienne in an almost sheepish way, “It just...sounds like something people’d wear there, is all.”
Do you think you and I might someday...? I don't see how that would benefit me in the slightest, my dear.
Vivienne Appreciation Week: Day 1
Vivienne and OCs
Tessa has always looked up to Vivienne as both a sister and mentor. She balances her grace, elegance, and softness with her authority, power, and wisdom; which is something that Tessa has struggled to reconcile. Vivienne has taken to this role quite well and genuinely enjoys Tessa’s company, although many believe that her motives are less than altruistic.
ok ok i only have like a minute for this bUT
i wanted to draw something else bc vivienne is so fashionable and i saw some really lovely photos of one of those fashion show things but i am unfortunately busy so i could only work on it for short 15 minute bits (which i don’t like, usually i’ll do a thing all at once even if it takes several hours, bc i go into The Zone and it’s easier that way idk) over the past two days so it’s a bit messy and inconsistent but still kinda nice and i think it’s late??? but i still wanted to do SOMETHING so here is vivienne in an outfit i hope she would approve of ;A;
oK NOW I HAVE TO LEAVE AGAIN bUT HAPPY APPRECIATION WEEK WE SHOULD DO MORE OF THESE FOR ALL THE CHARACTERS ILU VIVIENNE
