the first time he’d seen you was at the grocery store. you’d been wearing nothing intense, only a pair of sweatpants and a tank top, hair loose down your back and headphones on your head as you strolled down the baking aisle.
it had been an unconscious decision to follow you. he pushed his cart your way, abandoning the fruits he’d been looking at in favor for something that looked more delicious.
toji’s eyes stayed trained on you as you tiptoed to reach the top aisle. every muscle in his body ached to go help you, to crowd behind you and fill your space and find out what you smelled like as he grabbed what you needed, but he knew he couldn’t let you see him. not yet.
where would the fun be in that?
he lingered behind you until you finally left the store. you were completely oblivious, in your own world and far away from the dangerous thoughts that had now filled toji’s head.
he needed you. it was clear as daylight. the pull he had felt was maddening, so much so that he couldn’t fathom doing anything else except learning about you for however long he could. even in the dark he caught sight of your license plate as you drove away, a smile pulling at his scarred lip.
the next time he found ran into you was at a cafe. you were dolled up so prettily, the hem of your white skirt brushing your thighs as you shifted in your seat and placed one leg over the other. it took practiced skill for toji to pry his eyes away from the dip of your cleavage as he adjusted his pants. fuck.
a friend (irrelevant to him) was sitting in front of you, smiling as you moved your hands and animated some elaborate story. the bangles on your wrists jingled with each movement, and toji had a sudden, dangerous thought about what they’d sound like while he took you from behind.
this was the first time he let you see him you saw him.
the first glance was perfunctory. then he felt your eyes scroll back, words practically dying on your tongue as you took sight of him.
don’t look, don’t look, don’t look, he told himself. not yet. not until your gaze landed on him for the fourth time, and then the fifth.
he didn’t look until he felt it burn through him, and when he did- god, he wanted you right then and there.
the moment he met your eyes, you shifted your gaze, turning back to your friend and attempting to pretend you hadn’t just been staring at a stranger. you sipped your coffee when you felt your ears light on fire.
how embarrassing for you. toji thought about that moment that night in bed with his hand fisted around his cock. he couldn’t get the sight of you out of his head— your wide eyes, your bottom lip momentarily caught between your teeth, and your laugh. he’d do anything to hear it echo in his walls.
anything.
it took him approximately two days to find your address. it took him an embarrassingly short time after that to park in the lot in front of your apartment building, finding the perfect vantage point where he could spend his time gazing at you through your window.
it was like you invited trouble, you poor thing. you always kept it open for whatever reason. not that he was complaining, but what if others got ideas? he only wanted what’s best for you, of course; everyone else weren’t like him.
toji loved you. he knew it from the moment he came in his pants untouched when he saw you saunter around your living room in nothing but a pair of shorts and a bra. he knew it when he watched you through the cameras he installed later on, catching sight of you tripping over yourself in the morning while you rushed out the door.
he took notes, of course. shiu would never let him hear the end of it if he knew how dedicated toji was to you. but he was serious when he said he wanted to know everything about you. his notebook was filled with his handwriting, from the way you took your coffee to which porn video made you cum the hardest. he was fascinated by you.
the second time you met toji was at the bookstore. this time, he hadn’t had the intention of meeting; he was only trailing behind you the way he’d gotten used to, keeping you in his sight for no reason other than safety.
he’d only looked away for a moment. his phone had been buzzing nonstop in his pocket, and no matter how much he wanted to ignore it, if it was an assignment he knew he needed the money that would come with it. hell, what else was he supposed to spoil you with?
but just a minute after he looked down, he felt the air around him begin to buzz.
“excuse me?”
the blood in his head rushed down too quick. he’d heard your voice many times, of course, in all different emotions and moments. but it was so much sweeter in front of him, too sweet for the cameras to capture. toji was almost sad that he’d gone this long without being exposed to it.
all he could muster was a nod.
“i’m sorry, but where’d you grab that? i’ve been looking for it everywhere but i can’t seem to find it,” you said, pointing to the book in his hand. he’d unconsciously picked it up when he’d walked into the store (he couldn’t even remember where), and he glanced down at it with an almost foreign expression before holding it out to you.
“you can have it.”
for you, it was truly the first time you’d heard his voice. you remembered him, of course—how could you not? but until now he’d just been the hot guy from the cafe; now he was the hot, nice guy you ran into at the bookstore.
“oh no, you really don’t have to,” you said, eyes wide as you lifted your hands up. “i can really go find another copy. or find it online, which i could’ve done beforehand, but i guess i just have a thing about physical-”
“take it.” toji shoved the book into your hands. “prolly don’t need it as much as you.” definitely not.
your lashes fluttered as you glanced between the man and the book. “are you sure?”
toji paused. yes, he was sure. there was nothing more sure of he’d been in his entire life, perhaps. but is there where it would end? how could he see you again— not like before, but like this? in front of him?
“how ‘bout this, doll,” he mused after a moment. the corner of his scarred lip kicked up, and you felt something jump in your heart.
“i’ll buy the book for ya. it’ll be mine, but you borrow it, yeah? and then when you’re done with it,” he stepped forward casually, invading your space without a second thought, "you return it. win-win."
you blinked. "i- um. you're ok with me reading it first?"
he couldn't give less of a shit about the book.
"'f course. take it." like it wasn't yours, like he wasn't yours from the moment he'd seen you.
toji paid for the book before placing it back in your hands. "keep it safe for me, pretty," he said before turning on his heel towards the exit.
a thought crossed your mind then, and you frowned, hurrying after him before he could leave. "wait, wait, wait. how am i supposed to tell you when i'm done?"
stupid, stupid, toji. he'd forgotten, hadn't he? just because he'd had your number for weeks now didn't mean you had his. what a perfect thing you were, reminding him of how he almost fucked up.
"text me," he said, holding out his hand until you placed your phone in it. "tell me all about the story."
when he finally climbed into his car, he opened his phone to your very first message; something so mundane, yet somehow stirred in him something so vicious he felt evil.
my doll: hi this is y/n! from the bookstore :D
you were going to be the death of him.
he didn't bother responding until he got home and opened his laptop. there you were-- already home, already changed and comfortable on your couch with a glass of apple juice. your tv was buzzing with what looked to be some sort of animation, your phone lying screen up beside you.
toji kept his eyes on you for just a few more minutes before finally picking up his phone.
toji: hi doll
toji: started reading yet?
he watched as your gaze shifted to your phone as it lit up. you picked it up carefully, placing your glass down on the coffee table before swiping his message open. read, the text thread on his side said.
a small smile adorned your face. toji felt his dick stir again, but he decided to ignore it, waiting for your answer. besides, he wasn't a dog in heat. he could control himself.
my doll: not yet :( got home and got a little distracted
you paused, your fingers hovering over your screen. toji glanced between you and his own phone, unsure of how to respond. the last thing he wanted to do was fuck this up. you were so delicate, something so easy to break, and for some reason that made him want you all that much more.
toji: distracted with?
he hadn't thought this far, if he was being honest. not that he didn't want to be here, but..
my doll: just chores around the house, and then i got lazy and turned my tv on
my doll: i promise ill have the book done soon though! hopefully no longer than like 10 days
he couldn't help but laugh. it was so cute that you genuinely thought he wanted the book more than he wanted to smell see you again.
toji: take your time
toji: besides, you don't have to finish the thing to see me again
was that too forward? did he sound egocentric? fuck, had he already screwed it up?
he watched as you sat up straight for a moment, staring at your phone. your head tilted ever so slightly like you were trying to make sense of his words.
my doll: like...a book club?
he smacked his head as his pants tightened. you were either really fucking dumb, or purposefully dancing around his offer in chase of validation.
he wouldn't mind the first, but he crafted his next text betting on the second.
toji: no.
toji: like i want to take you out.
toji: dinner, a movie, shopping, whatever you want
you chucked your phone onto one end of the couch and threw yourself onto the other, an excited squeal escaping you as you kicked your feet. you hid your face in your hands, which toji thought was unfortunate. he wanted to see you smile.
it was a few minutes before you collected yourself again (at least enough to reply-- you didn't want to leave him on read for too long).
my doll: oh.
toji: yeah, oh.
my doll: can i ask why?
toji kissed his teeth. what the fuck did you mean, why? why not? what was the appropriate answer in a situation like this?
if he was an honest man, he would say that he was captivated by you. he would tell you how much he craved you, how obsessed he'd been since the day he'd seen you and before you knew he existed. he would tell you that he didn't know why, but he felt the pull in his blood and he didn't have the sanity to truly question it.
instead, he sighed.
toji: because i want to get to know you. if you don't, that's fine.
it wasn't. he'd just have to find another way to get under your skin.
my doll: no, no, i do too! i'd like that, actually.
"you're so perfect," toji muttered to himself, lifting his eyes to your image on his laptop. you'd shifted positions again, this time lying down with your head on the armrest and your phone held above you. your bare legs were stretched out, the blanket kicked off of them and your shorts ridden up dangerously.
toji: how does dinner tomorrow night sound?
my doll: that's good :)
toji: perfect. dress up, doll. i'll pick you up at 7.
you simply liked the message in hopes of not coming off too excited. then, dropping your phone onto your chest, you squealed again, kicking the armrest at your feet and giggling.
toji watched you with dark eyes. they darkened still when, thirty minutes later, you ended up in your bed with your hand shoved in the waistband of your shorts, back arched on the mattress and soft sounds falling from your lips.
he hated how he wasn't there with you. he hated how it wasn't him that was pleasing you the way he knew he could, not his head between your thighs while he made you quiver. when his hand finally drifted to his cock, he imagined it was you on top of him, sitting pretty and fucked stupid.
he came with you, but he regretted the distance.
not for long, he told himself.
not for long.
a/n: sorry?
