Legs could see it, the hesitation. The shifting eyes, the rigid postures, the tightening grips on weapons. He didn’t blame them, he knew the feeling all too well. The feeling of looking into the eyes of a monster.
He was sure he looked the part, even if the waters of the lake no longer knew of his presence. He could still feel it, the phantom echoes of Owen tearing his body apart, the searing, ripping pain. And now, he could feel blood congealing on his skin, stiffening the fabric of his tattered clothes. His blood. Owen’s blood. Animal blood.
Legs had worked so hard to gain trust, first because he deserved it and then because he didn’t.
And now here he was, trying so hard to keep it all at bay. The hunger. The anger that wasn’t his. The disappointment.
It didn’t matter, because Legs could be useful like this. Legs could be helpful like this. Legs could fight like this.
Fighter. Killer. Monster. Soldier. What was the difference?
Degrees of bloodshed.
Still it hurt. Pain that he deserved, an eternity he didn’t. Death was too good for him. He didn’t deserve to join all those he made suffer in the dark. Punishment. Torment. Phantom claws.
He just needed to keep fighting, he just needed to keep being useful in the only way he ever truly was.
Death.

Despite of field conditions, another operation was succesful. The medic for sure should clean up before the next one.
Hey, wake up. It will be a nightmare to clean those aprons if the blood dries up.
