The Mikaelson’s are a distant branch of the Hio and Shirabuki family, come about by an affair that caused the birth of her Father. He was left at the doors of a noble family to be raised nearly 2,000 years ago and given the name Mikael. He was taken in by Rido Kuran by request of the Senate to be raised as a proper pureblood after he was discovered. His time with Rido made him despise Purebloods-but he hid it well enough, having come to love the another Pureblood. The woman was the Aunt of Isaya Shoto and after they married they went to America to hide from the eyes of the Senate, giving birth to 7 children in the span of 30 years back in 1000AD.

After learning that his wife had an affair with a member of the Toma family that resulted in the birth of their 4th child he lost it and sealed her away in a tomb and began hunting down other purebloods, focusing mainly on his wife's bastard child in his hunt. It was at this time that his children banded together and went on the run, creating many Level D vampires to distract him in his hunt of them-usually being sure to feed them their own blood in order to prevent them from descending into madness. For the most part Rebekah stays with her brother’s in their travel’s, however she does travel on her own on occasion. They tend to stick to America and Europe in order to stay out of the eyes of the hunters association.

About 500 years back the Senate managed to capture their Father and has him sealed below the Senate building in a cell.
