1. Formlabs - Created as a spinoff from the MIT Media Lab, Formlabs is startup that is made up of people who are passionate about design and engineering. Frustrated with the lack of high-quality, affordable 3D printers, Formlabs united designers and engineers to create Form 1, an easy to use printer to make physical products come to life.

2. MC10 - MC10's goal is to redefine the interface between electronics and the human body; to make humans more superhuman. The startup aims to achieve this by making high-performance electronics virtually invisible, conformal, and wearable. Applications for this technology range from protecting troops, treating heart arrhythmias, and monitoring a sleeping baby’s temperature.

3. Bounce Imaging  

Bounce Imaging aims to aid first responders entering hazardous spaces by providing images, temperature and oxygen levels, and maps of unseen spaces. The Bounce Imaging Explorer, pictured above, features a flexible sensor platform that can adapt to the needs of policemen, firefighters, soldiers, and search & rescue teams.

4. FINsix - FINsix, also an MIT spin-off, has a purposeful name. FIN is an acronym for Frequency Innovation, which is at the core of their building technology - using Very High Frequency (VHF) circuits to make smaller, elegant power converters. Six, or VI in Roman numerals, is the electrical formula for Power. FINsix's product, the Dart, is the world's smallest laptop adapter. They're on Kickstarter - help them reach their goal today.

5. Mooshim Engineering - The Mooshimeter, from Mooshim Engineering, harnesses the power of your smartphone to improve the digital multimeter.
