sometimes i think lances arc was about failure. he wanted to save shiro (everything starts because of it in s1e1!) but he failed (kuron arc), he wanted to be w allura but she sacrificed herself and he could do nothing about it. black and blue rejected him, red almost let him (and his sister) die. he prob feels like a failure and blames himself for everything and that’s why he gave up his dreams and decided to stay in his family farm. he never gets what he wants but also never gets what he needs
he never gets what he wants but also never gets what he needs
Honestly, at this point I think there’s little use on speculating what could have been unless we hear something from the staff itself - but that could be years.
As some who thinks that Lance didn’t even have an arc, I think that he falls into the category of “I don’t care” alongside Hunk by JDS and LM. Their neglect on his character is what leads to this disastrous ending, but do I think it was intentional? ... Not really?
As shitty as JDS and LM might seem, I don’t think they did everything with malice; but at the same time their tone-deafness has a loooot of work to do.
Lance’s arc may seem like a failure not because he couldn’t do anything; but because they wouldn’t let him do anything (that’s why we have Keith and Pidge here for right?). They just didn’t realise how it would seem by the long run. Lance, per se, doesn’t seem totally useless like a stupid comedic sidekick of the main hero or villain, but at the same time, What Did He Do?
Was that his “arc”? Personally, I don’t think so. Does it seem like that? Absolutely.
