There was no denying that there was a look of disappointment on his face. It was there in black and white, in the crevices and creases across scrunched up features. If KMG thought he was going to enjoy this, well, they had severely miscalculated.

Dark eyes looked out across the water as staff members prepared the kayak that he and a member of Particle were to use. As per what was apparently company fashion, he hadn’t been informed who he’d be adventuring with, not to mention he had hoped to do so alone, but they’d gone on about how it’d be safer and so forth (none of it which made a lick of sense, quite honestly). But he knew. He knew it was all about the photo ops.

Tugging on a life vest, the young man turned to face his activity partner, forcing a small smile.

“Hello,” he greeted, giving a slight bow before gazing at their waiting watercraft. There had been plenty of instances where he’d seen Sinjae around, but had never gotten the opportunity to properly get to know him. “I’m guessing you’ve kayaked before?”

There was nothing quite like being in a park on one’s day off. Now that wasn’t to say he was enjoying it by any means, but his opinions on the matter also held very little weight to those in charge. For the next two days he’d be stuck here for the majority of the time, partaking in pre-planned events and what he felt were likely to be forced moments of glee.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t found himself in similar situations a hundred times before.

Nursing a cup of coffee, the young man perched atop one of the set up tables, sunglasses covering eyes that scanned the area where fellow KMG idols and their staff scampered about. Everyone wore a smile, everyone totted a camera. Was this weekend really about enjoying the fruits of their hard work, or simply another photo op?

“Do you think they’re going to make us participate in every event, or can we actually choose for once? Because my ideal activity is just sitting by the water all day.”

“Stand tall” was never an issue. At six feet, "standing tall” simply meant not slumping forward, not that doing so would help him in a moment like this as it was.

Beside him stood a trainee, one he’d held pleasant conversations with on and off over the years, and quite frankly he like the lad better than he did many debuted idols. If anything, he felt a kinship to the younger, as if he were to make sure to protect him whenever called for. He couldn’t help it. There was some sort of innate reaction that pushed him towards that, but never so much so that it was overbearing.

It was all but a hope that it didn’t annoy his hoobae.

As a staff member began to tie the boys’ ankles together for the race, Kiwon gave a slight bow to the trainee coupled with a tight-lipped smile.

“Ready?”

What else was he supposed to say?

Intentions were a tricky thing, an objective, an answer to why people did things, to why events were supposed to make sense, and yet there were often more questions than opportunities to shed light on confusing instances that brought little relief.

In such a case, this was such a time.

Perched atop a picnic table, the elder surveyed the area before them. Idols and staff alike were enjoying their time outside, but it would take more than scavenger hunts and awkward talent shows to get him excited for another day of this.

“Am I the only one not enjoying this boiling heat?” The words were for the young man just a few feet away, but he didn’t look at him. Just in case he didn’t hear, you see. He didn’t want to look like a fool.

It was no secret that he’d had it up to his ears with the ridiculous activities that KMG had prepared. Although he had become rather well-versed in preventing his nerves from rising to the surface and making themselves known through less than pleased looks and breathy snorts, he couldn’t help but cross bare arms over his chest.

Their staffs must have been out of their bloody minds if they thought this would go over well.

At the waters edge, the young man stood a few feet from the waiting kayak, watching the gentle waves lap at the shore. Dark eyes focused on the ground as he mindlessly put on the life vest as instructed. To allow his gaze to stray but a few degrees to the side and he’d be graced with the less than pleasant view of Jaejin.

Prick.

Christ, what had he done to deserve this?

Clearing his throat, the young man pulled his attention up and looked out across the body of water.

“Want to rock, paper, scissors to see who sits in the front?” Kiwon suggested, rubbing his bicep as if in an attempt to turn down the heat of his rising temper.
