1) The national team you support: Germany all the way.
2) The national team you wouldn’t mind winning: My brothers Iceland and Denmark.
3) The national team you love to hate: Fucking Sweden. I’m Norwegian; I’m excused. We literally have a saying going ‘the important thing is not to win, but to beat the Swedes’.
4) The favourite player from your national team: From the current WC squad: Marc-André ter Stegen.
5) A player you dislike from your national team: I don’t have anyone I have a decent reason to dislike, but I’m very indifferent to quite many players. I’m just gonna go with Kevin Trapp here for stealing Bernd Leno’s spot as third keeper.
6) A player you love from a national team you hate: The only Swede I’ll ever acknowledge is Oscar Wendt, and it’s exclusively because he’s playing for my favourite club. I don’t care that he’s not a national team player anymore – I refuse to name any other Swede.
7) A player who deserves the call up: Marco Reus, considering his injury four years ago. Honourable mentions are Bernd Leno and Lars Stindl – I’m still pissed Bernd was dropped and Lars got injured at the very end of the season. They’d both deserved to be there.
8) The first World Cup you can remember: 2006, but it’s only because a relative of mine was severely injured when falling off her horse one day we were visiting family and planning to enjoy football together. (You can tell I haven’t been a football fan for long.)
9) Your favourite World Cup so far: Without doubt 2014. In May 2013, when it became clear that Bayern and Dortmund would meet in the CL finale, I knew for sure that Germany would win, and I only doubted twice: when Neuer injured his shoulder, and in the match against Algeria. Words can’t describe how absolutely perfect that one month was for me, and I still think of it as the happiest time of my life.
10) The winner of the 2018 World Cup: I’m horrible at predictions, and since I haven’t felt that almost-psychic Germany-will-win feeling since 2014, I’m not going to name them. So, Brazil, I guess?
