could u summarise what u like about pikelan? i’ve been trying to put it into words but i can’t quite find them
Mod Jables will start here by linking some of the expulsions of this sentiment we’ve made in the past:
ships passing in the night, part 2
being support mains as a lifestyle part 1, 2, 3* read this one, 4, 5, 6,
clowning, shenanigans, and tomfoolery
the most adorable love language of all time
For me, all of this is important. Like essentially I may as well tell you to just watch the pikelan supercut because that’s the appeal to me--the entire picture of this relationship.
I like that it’s not a straight forward arc of progress. I like that it’s messy and they don’t actually fall in love with each other at the same time, Or even good times to fall in love. Scanlan falls in love with pike immediately--bad idea and probably not really love, but it becomes that. Pike falls in love with scanlan after left and probably because he left-- bad timing and only fuels her bitterness.
They have independent character arcs that are like two inverse parabolas, bringing them separately to mutual and gentle conclusion. It was by no means a given that they would end up together and so that conclusion is made stronger by their own independent choices. They do not need each other-- they chose each other.
It runs the gamut from funny and flirty, to angsty, to soft and sure.
It’s extremely important to me that the themes of what it’s required to be a support pc on a team are strengthened in their relationship-- small acts of care, devotion, forgiveness.
“Thank you for saving us in the fight, Pike.” “Thank you for saving us all, Scanlan.”
“There’s no one I’d rather spend the rest of my days with.” “The most free I’ve ever been is with you.”
But also big themes and narrative sentiments are great, but there’s the simple fact that ships appeal through gut instinct and reactions and I simply am enamored with:
Sam and Ashley have great chemistry
gnomes and gnome life is cute
grand champions all time most longest slow burn winners (115 episodes, something insane like a million hours of content??? i’m not going to look it up but there’s no possible way any other show (other than cr itself) could ever beat that slow burn time)
