Art In Island: More Than the Art of Being a Part of Art
We Filipinos sure love taking photos. Whatever the occasion is, we always make sure we have our cameras with us. Whether we are at a birthday party, in a Christmas celebration, in a simple squad or family gathering, or travelling, we do take photos. But that’s not just limited to love of photography; of course we want to be in it too! Admit it, there are times that when we see our friends or family about to take a photo, we run towards them to join. Another proof: even if there’s no occasion, we just loooove taking selfies (I know you’re guilty too). Is it enough to say Filipinos are vain?
So to positively and academically cater to Filipino vanity, a 3D art museum was built in Cubao, Quezon City - Art In Island.

Art In Island is the largest 3D museum in Asia. There are a lot of themed 3D paintings 360 degrees literally! There’s really no need to look for a picturesque background to take a photo of, for wherever you look the place have 3D paintings on the wall, on the ceiling or on the floor.
Although established in the Philippines, creators are Korean nationals. At the end of your tour, you'll be able to know the team behind Art In Island. I must say, thank you for bringing this in the Philippines!
Let me share you some of our favorite photos:
What's very unique about this museum is it is an interactive one. Aside from being a part of the 3D painting, it's best if you creatively think of how you will make it look more realistic and interesting that would make you look like you're really in that certain situation. You must project in the best way you can for amazing results. But if you’re like me who are awkward in photos that do not know how to project, please take a moment to thank the sample photos (some with instructions) posted on the walls near the art.
Aside from photos, there are some artworks that require video-taking. I'll give you some previews for this one:

By the way, this dragon is not moving any of its part. It’s just made of one piece carton and is steady. But when you take a video of it, it looks like it’s following its head to look at you! The good power of illusion.
But what do you get aside from these photos and videos?
Number one, the museum is very educational as it explains of what kind of 3D art (or room) is displayed. There are also illusions which are explained on how to properly use or look at, which are astonishing. Some of the famous Vincent Van Gogh's paintings are also explained in the museum as well. Honestly, I envy the students today who go to this museum as part of their educational field trip. I just hope they really take time to appreciate the place, and the art of course.
Number two, along the education is the fun while learning. Even we who are not much of art lovers appreciated the whole place, plus we really walked out with big smiles on our faces. The experience is so worth it.
Number three, the different kind of bonding experience with your companions.
We took this photo through panorama, him holding the cam first then vice versa. not bad though!
After your photo-taking moments, at the end is a cafeteria that waits for you. You could buy food and drinks, but what amazed me most and appreciate the place way, way more is this:
Yes, they kept the painting cans and palettes to creatively recycle them. It’s not often you see a place that would preserve used materials to use for another function, as an art decor and to preserve the memories while on the process of building something, all at once! I am very much in awe whenever I recall it.
So to get you ready with the experience, here are some of my advice:
- Bring or wear socks because as a way of preserving their paintings, shoes are not allowed inside the museum and are left on the counter. You could be in barefoot as well but it could get a little painful on the feet.
- Make sure that before you go to the place, your photo-taking devices are in full charge. However, it's more advisable if you can bring your powerbanks with you.
- Turn off your flashes, they're prohibited.
- My Golden Rule for Art In Island: Do not photobomb to others’ photo as much as you don’t want others to photobomb in your photo. Patiently wait for your turn to take your photo. Plus if you have kids with you, please guide them and do not let them run around the place as courtesy to others.
- Go on a weekday, preferably from Tuesday to Thursday so you don’t have to deal with a lot of people. By the way, the museum is closed during Mondays.
- Do not get upset when someone asks you to take their photo. You wouldn’t know they might also help you back to take your photo and who knows, gain friends!
- But in our case when we were there, we're too shy to ask people to take photos of us. What we did is we used panorama and it has become our best friend. Just make sure both of you have steady hands. Follow up tip: this time, it's better if you have a third-wheeler with you (ha ha!).
