NIGHT DRIVE

When he hung up, Jack knew he was in trouble. Just like you always were with a spouse when you did something you weren't supposed to do. However, for them, there was another layer. That layer, Jack did not want to think about just now. The justification to his husband. Admitting his wrong doing, was something Jack struggled with, because in his mind, this was justified because he needed it.
As he was sitting in his holding cell, looking at the window before him, looking past it, he was just so eerily quiet and calm. No restlessness, no scanning. He was just there. It was the adrenaline which was leaving now, it made his brain go foggy for a bit. He wasn't tired, he wasn't in pain, he felt just empty. And it was peaceful to not have to think of anything. However, therapy had taught him and he could not deny it, that he was going back to the things he used to do when all became too much.
It was a short lived fix, he knew that as well, because reality was hammering down on him again as he heard the clicks of metal doors opening and footsteps approaching. There was a lump forming in his throat. For any other bullshit he would have done and ended up in jail for, Weylen would have been on board. However this, this was known to them both, the night rides. He had not taken one in years, not ever since Tessa was born. He did some reckless driving but usually it was with Weylen knowing about it.
He had not informed his husband of what he was doing or where he was going. And while one could argue, he was free to do what he wanted, Jack knew that when you had a certain type of behavior, made someone already go through an attempt, there were things you couldn't just decide on your own, especially when that person was your husband.
As the jail door opened, he stood up and meeting Weylen's gaze, knew just how much this had impacted him. He nodded, not saying much as he walked until he was out of the precinct. He took a deep breath, looking up at the night sky before putting his hands in his pockets and looked around for Lucy. His car was towed, would be for a month at least, they already did him a favor with the paperwork because he knew these guys, but still needed to follow protocol. "Where are you parked?"
