Vocal Range: A2 - F5 - D6

Projected Range: F3 - D5 - F5

Technicality: 3.6/5

Lower Chest (3.5/5): Able to project down to an F3, Marina’s lower register is strong and supported. It maintains a darker edge to it and can either be warm or cool based on the singer’s discretion (see Happy).

Lower Middle/Modal (4.5/5): Easily the strongest part of Diamandis’ voice. She is able to project here fully with a weighty tone and very consistent vibrato while maintaining good breath control and ease. (see bridge of Radioactive).

Upper Middle/Modal (3/5): Diamandis can hit soprano like notes due to her lightening her mix past D#5. Although this is true, it is often inconsistent though improving. Because she carries a lot of weight, this is often the hardest area of her voice to phrase in.

Upper Register (3.5/5): Diamandis has a very proficient head voice and falsetto. She is able to replicate different colors and textures while staying supported. This area of the voice is underused past F5 though, especially in a live setting.

Positives: Diamandis has an excellently connected voice, allowing her to switch between registers quickly and effortlessly (see State of Dreaming). She can also change the color and contouring of her voice to match the song she is singing. Sometimes she may layer her vocals to create a certain harmonic sound (see Hermit the Frog). Diamandis has a very warm and welcoming mix that translates throughout the entire voice.

Negatives: Diamandis has experienced improper treatment to her voice, causing it to get a rougher and biting sound to it that can be unpleasant to the ear at times. Her technique used to reach the extremities of her voice are also questionable. She has shown to have passagio issues around C#5, which is a note she tends to avoid.

Tori Kelly (Vocal Profile)

Voice Type: Lyric Coloratura Soprano

Vocal Range: C#3-G#5-G6 Supported Range: E3-D5 Suggested Listenings: Nobody Love, Expensive, Crazy, Treasure, Pretty Young Thing

Vocal Ranking: Platinum Vocal Pros: Vocal expertise with amazing agility, able to transition from mixed to head voice flawlessly. Impressive, dark, healthy lows that are achieved with ease and support down to an impressive supported E3 with clarity and resonance. Midbelts are where her voice finds most comfort and control while also maintaining a raspy quality. Upper belts are light and raspy as well, however are less controlled and could be inconsistent. Her falsetto is thin and sweet and her whistle register is bright and piercing although undeveloped and underused. Her vibrato is thin, even and covers most of her voice. Overall, an outstanding musician with a good technique.

Vocal Cons: Upper belts are achieved by raising the larynx (above Eb5). She closes off her throat and becomes tense above D5, also sounding screechy and gritty. No real head voice is produced, she opts for a falsetto instead.

Christina Grimmie (Vocal Profile)

Voice Type: Light-Lyric Soprano

Vocal Range: B2-Bb5 (C#6)-F#6 Supported Range: E3-Eb5/E5-Bb5 Suggested Listenings: Tell My Mama, Wrecking Ball, Find Me, With Love, Must Be Love

Vocal Ranking: Platinum Vocal Pros: Vocal prowess capable of "executing complicated melismas" and sustain notes for long periods of time. Christina has consistent resonance, good placement, and an open sound. Her lower register is very well supported down to E3 with a dark healthy sound. Mid-range belts are accompanied with great support and are very forward placed with a smooth, even vibrato. Upper belts maintain a piercing quality and are achieved with ease. She has the ability to utilize mixed voice up to a C#6. She has a nice warm connected head voice up to C#6 along with a thin falsetto in the higher parts of the voice (Above Eb6). Christina acquires musicianship, agility and excellent usage of her supported and full range. Overall, an exceptional vocalist with tremendous abilties.

Vocal Cons: Belts may sound thin above E5, however this issue has lessened over time. Her E5s may carry slight tongue tension. She tends to raise her larynx at E5/F5 and above, and she develops throat tension. Her whiny tone may not be to everyone’s taste.

Hello there! So I’m planning to make this tumblr blog a vocal analysis for vocalists across the world (vocal profiles basically) and have reviews about singles and some vocal battles. I’m really excited! I’m going to be as fair as possible and give each vocalist the rank I think they deserve.

Vocal rankings will be as follows:

1- Diamond (Legend-level Vocalists) 2- Platinum (High-Level Vocalists) 3- Gold (Skilled Vocalists) 4- Silver (Capable Vocalists) 5- Bronze (Weak-Average Vocalists)

Vocal profiles will be uploaded regularly and the blog will not follow any evaluation from general perception. If you disagree with rankings, please message me and I will discuss what I think again and reflect on the rank. Vocal improvements will result in profile updates. Music style and will not interfere with vocal reviews as it does not demonstrate vocal abilities.
