[Mid-September was when this happened. Since, things have changed. I realized the post link didn’t work, so I reposted it and its accompanying text. Note that it’s out of context and happened earlier than these other recent pieces.]
A short work manifested by creative asphyxiation
Despite a previous steady outpouring of material, I am hyperconscious of my audience as of late, and have been cautious about posting. Do I censor what I share, knowing that my content may influence my connections with others- or, in pursuit of authenticity and pride in my finished work, do I share? This question is inhibiting my posting of past works, and this cognizance of audience is regrettably influencing my current creations.
Tonight in the middle of a songwriting session, I was overcome with anxious thoughts about audience and couldn’t continue. I lacked confidence in the words I was crafting. In that moment of disappointment with myself, I created this piece. I’m frustrated that, more than ever, my writing doesn’t seem my own. This piece in its brevity is my inability to speak.
Accompanied by the chorus of many good people Sporadic laughter was due to a terrier-type dog running in front of the performance space Credit to Chiara Phillips for thinking up this harmony to my song a long time ago Friday, October 23, 2015
