time stands still at the iron hill is kind of funny in context because Fingolfin's duel is famously the One Thing nobody sings about. "neither do the Elves sing about it for their sorrow is too deep" but the germans have no such qualms

#silm adjacent #blind guardian #not art #time stands still #nightfall in middle earth #on that note #ive been going through the nightfall lyrics for the purposes of matching them up w the corresponding silm chapters #and time stands still is kind of interesting in that it sort of dramatizes fingolfins charge while downplaying the despair of it all #'bearer of hope/rides into his glorious battle alone/farewell to the valiant warlord' emphasizing his greatness #meanwhile the fingolfin pov parts dont explicitly state it but 'for what i became; a king of the lost/barren and lifeless the land lies'#definitely hints at more of the grief #but then it switches back to the chorus of Look How Brave The High King Is #also 'and the sound of his horn's/like a raging storm' when every single version that recounts fingolfins duel #explicitly states that his horn was high and clear and generally very un-storm-like #it also doesn't mention the whole thing of orcs parting in fear and mistaking him for orome. which seems like something important to includ #plus the whole seven strikes + hewing morgoths foot part #anyways it all creates this kind of cool effect where it seems like the chorus/narrator part is from the perspective of a noldo who #didnt actually witness the battle #so the fingolfin pov parts kind of hint at his actual emotional state #while the narrator plays up the glory of it all but misses key details #just a neat contrast
