Thank you for the ask!! Questions here.
12. A concept you'd like to develop next year
In terms of my writing, I have a couple of ongoing fics I want to finish - which I know isn't exactly what the question is asking, but it sort of ties into that! One of my fics that came on a whim is this mermaid AU thing that I started developing in the background even though I haven't written all that much about it as of yet. What I have cooking feels like something that will be a lot of fun to write: it's revenge and obsession and Moby Dick esque and I just think there are some interesting ideas to pull on that I can't wait to put myself to task in writing.
Artistically, a lot of where my mind is right now is on Kaiji; and I have this idea for a very self indulgent renaissance style painting I want to make lol. Kaiji is just such an interesting character and the dramatic, heightened emotions make him a very attractive subject to depict for me. It makes me want to see how much I can push myself.
15. An area of your art you feel you improved upon.
It's funny, I didn't especially notice direct improvement this year as much as I have in past years, I think I fell back a lot on things I'm comfortable in doing. Overall though, I have a better sense of body flow than I used to; more of my pieces this year have had dynamic and interesting poses going on, with a more confident sense of motion, and I've also gotten more willing to play with colour more consistently this year than others.
16. Something interesting you researched as part of the process
I did a lot of research into neuroscience for a fic I was writing where a character is given a full body prosthesis Ghost in the Shell style. Since I'm writing from the perspective of Tenma, who is a robotics genius guy, I wanted it to sound authentic - he knows what he's doing etc so it has to sound realistic. I had a fun time making connections between how the human brain / body functions and how you would replicate that with futuristic robotics. Lots of jargon to wrap my head around though.
