I have very mixed feelings about the way ppl use Kraken imagery in art of Ed but I don't think I'm capable of articulating my thoughts about it well. It's not every art that uses Kraken imagery, but some of it makes me very uncomfy.

some ppl in this fandom are TOO Izzy coded in that they refuse to see Ed outside of the realm of violence and thus every emotion he has or action he takes is violent to them.

"Izzy Anti Archive" please calm down. These are not even small-time internet celebrities abusing any kind of power dynamic. These are literally regular people with dayjobs on tumblr dot com expressing their own personal feelings.

You are not saving anyone. You're not protecting anyone. In claiming to expose harassment, you are in kind dishing out harassment and rallying strangers against individuals, intentionally or not.

Can we ever escape this exposure culture in fandom? Can we not just block people we don't like at will and move on? I guarantee this time next year, or in two years, maybe even three you will look back and cringe at the amount of time and energy you put into demanding someone else change rather than just controling your own response to their actions.

Stop. Look inward. Take a breather and just let it be.

Somebody has to tell yt ppl in the OFMD fandom that "We're not colonizers, we're pirates!" was a joke made ABOUT THEM and when they parrot that line like it's an actual statement with merit(ew) or some silly inside joke they get to be part of, it's just cringey and offensive.

I think I've finally pinpointed why I'm so bothered by people referring to Ed as "The Kraken" and I think it has a lot to do with the way it's framed in fanon vs canon.

Bc in canon it's just him making a - frankly vague - comparison in passing. It doesn't feel like it's even meant to be that profound from his perspective, just A Thing. To me, it felt like he wasn't saying "I'm a large looming beast who brings destruction everywhere I go" and insteadz he was saying "I killed my father".

The thing that gets me is when ppl take that and then apply it in fanon as if it's the former. They portray him actively viewing himself as the actual beast itself. Or they portray him in imagery where he IS the beast (Not to conflate that with ppl who analyze the subtext of him feeling traped in the stereotype of a beast and brandishing it to protect himself). And it's not just about seperating that one violent behavior from the rest, because violence is just a part of his life as a pirate.

People specifically go out of their way to associate any negative emotions with the Kraken. And in doing so, they strip him of his humanity.

Because then he doesn't get to be angry or hurt without being A Beast. And something about that has just always rubbed me way wrong.

As much as I have things to complain about in the OFMD fandom, I do hate when ppl say it's the worst fandom they've ever been in / they've never seen a fandom act out this much / they think the show was a mistake or should be canceled.

For starters, I have issues with some Izzy stans and that's not a secret. But have any of you ever fucking met a Billy Hargove stan? I guarantee you'll wanna be besties with every single Izzy stan if only bc it's never going to be as bad as dealing with Billy Hargrove stans.

You wanna talk about shitty fandoms? Lets talk about the time a Jim Hopper stan told me I deserved the abuse I lived through growing up. Yes, in those /exact/ words.

You wanna talk about racism thats so bad it can't be ignored? You clearly never met the Arcana fandom. One of the love interests is a LITERAL NAZI based on the social and moral standards of the fictional world it exists in and over half the fandom makes death threats if you even question his motives. THE ONLY NATIVE CHARACTER WAS HIS LITERAL SLAVE AND PPL BLAME HIM FOR THE NAZIS HURTED FEELINGS.

So stop saying OFMD is the worst fandom ever. Most of you have no fucking idea what it's like to be BIPOC in most fandom spaces and the way y'all act like a few overbearing Izzy fans is the worst thing to happen on the internet since dashcon is truly appalling.
