I agree so much with what you said

“It was just your own bad luck” was always one of the most frustrating but one of the best parts of Jonah’s letter because it meant that it could’ve been anyone with enough bad luck even you but it’s Jon because he is unlucky it was one of the things I loved about it so having it as “it would’ve always been Jon” takes that away

I wouldn’t have minded it that much if the incident with Mr Spider would have been the thing that attracted the web to Jon but having it be they picked him even before that just takes away so much

Yeah that’s exactly it! It would make sense of Mr Spider was what made the Web sit up and take notice, a kid escaping so they attach a thread to him to see where he wanders, but the implication that they were on to him BEFOREHAND and did that to him just to mark him... It just makes it all feel a little less immersive, makes Jon less relatable if he is the kind of person who was The Perfect Candidate like there was criteria for it, like he couldn’t just be any of us if we were unlucky enough
