the year is 1859, and the sun unleashed a storm unlike any before. a solar flare turned into a blazing storm ripped through the solar system. with it came levels of electromagnetic radiation the earth had never been exposed to before. what eventually came to be called the carrington event brought with it the aurora borealis, seen as far south as costa rica.
the aurora borealis brought abilities no one could explain. but it also brought the gradual, gasping death of carnivores. centuries have passed since the event that changed a third of humanity into being empowered. society fell to its knees, and was reworked to withstand the elevated levels of electromagnetic radiation, and the eyes and souls of the people turned to the night sky. the gods worshiped are those that represent the cosmos, and all powers fall into one of their domains.
the year is 2152 and the world has changed. much technology is the same, but many things are different. the city of banff, alberta, is no outlier. it has been transformed from small resort town to capital of the continent and technological wonderland. separated into three rings, the city might as well have three different identities. the upper, middle, and lower castes are at odds, and while attempts have been made to bridge gaps, the tensions seem to just get worse.
now the lower class is afraid. afraid of being snatched in the night and forced into becoming something they don’t want. the middle class – those who live in between the divide – has tried to turn a blind eye for year and are starting to become divided while the upper class, the children of the gods, live in their gilded homes and oblivious bliss. things are changing, and their closed eyes must open soon, lest everyone in the city of banff face the end of their way of life due to the brewing war of castes.
