I know this isn’t really the point of the scene but who is that guy then? If the king died and they might or might not have an older brother, is this just the next person in line for the throne? Or do they pick rulers based on magic here? That’d make the “usurping” thing a little clearer, but either way I’m sure it’s not all that relevant.
But, yeah. Eternity of torture alone in a pit. That’s a thing they picked out for children.
Like, I’m sure there’s the whole “they were just doing the best for everyone in general” argument but hot damn is it hard to sympathise with anyone in this.
Wait EXCUSE ME?
This is the part where it takes a dive right beyond “understandable self preservation” into “actual evil”. Instead of just getting rid of the twins for safety they chose to deliberately make their lives as painful as possible so that they would profit off of it.
THANKS, UNNAMED KING. 10/10 DECISION MAKING.
Oh man it just gets worse and worse.
I hadn’t clicked onto this part of the punishment, but it makes sense in hindsight. Fai is at the bottom and the twin is at the top. So even in an imprisonment where they are powerless anyway they still chose to separate them on purpose so that they would be in that much more constant pain.
And the thing that really nails me in the heart is that every time Fai tried to climb his way up the wall he was always climbing up towards his twin, and never towards the much shorter exit. Even in these circumstances he never once tried to survive without his twin.
Which makes Evil Wolverine’s trick (and Ashura’s whatever) that much crueler, because Fai would have never chosen to do that.

The “And the people shall be happy” is the most disturbing part of this tapestry of horror. Everyone is ecstatic about this solution. They either don’t see the twins as human or just generally do not spend a single brain cell thinking that this might be a regrettable thing to do.
It’s a really nice country you’ve got going there, you terrible king you.
Like I mentioned in the previous post we already know that neither twin ever would have chosen to sacrifice the other. And that’s exactly why they were down there for so long - as well as why Fai’s twin is accusing him in the present, and why it hurts Fai so deeply. Even with all this laid on them, they never chose to abandon the other for an easier life.
Also I’m not gonna lie I’m really thrilled they have matching coats.

You know public favour is against you when they call the prince gaining the throne usurping it. Like... I’m sorry? Usurping it from whom? Themself?
Though on a side note it’s neat to think that, if they were the rulers, they’d rule it together as a single ruler instead of just one of them being coronated. If this were any other rule I’d find that idea very fun to play with.
But, you know. We’re here, so. I guess everything is just the worst instead.
“Murdering the children would bring devastation, so they decided to imprison them in eternal torture instead. Surely that wouldn’t have any negative consequences whatsoever. What a perfect plan.”

STARTING STRONG WITH THE EMOTIONAL SENTENCES I SEE.
SOUNDS GREAT.
THIS ISN’T PAINFUL AT ALL.

At least I know for sure that any reunion I might have in the future will never be this awkward.

CAN THAT BE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER?
CAN THAT BE NOW?
I SEE NOTHING PARTICULARLY WORTH PRESERVING ABOUT THIS WORLD. LET’S QUIT WHILE WE’RE AHEAD.
Chapitre 155 - Unlucky Twins
Or, in the official translation, “The Damned Twins”.
One of these seems a lot more accurate than the other. I don’t think ‘unlucky’ really sums up the tragedy that is Fai’s backstory so far, even though I’ve only seen roughly thirty seconds of it.
Meanwhile Chi and Freya are having a good time in the pool and I’m glad they’re getting a chance to rest.
What does the splash text mean? No idea!
