Did you know that you can sign up for USGS volcanic email alerts and you’ll get text or email messages letting you know the alert has changed? You can specify for a certain geographic range (eg Aleutians, Cascadia, etc) and for higher alert levels.

Really recommended if you live in the PNW or near large volcanic ranges (most of the west coast and islands due to Pacific ring of fire).

HELP GUATEMALA FROM THE FUEGO VOLCANO!!!!

On june 3rd, el Volcán de Fuego erupted leaving the whole country in alert. Here’s some stuff you need to know and how you can help. The massive eruption blasted smoke more than four miles into the sky and set off a pyroclastic surge, something like the one from Pompeii in AD 79. It buried several villages like El Rodeo, leaving several deads already. Its eruption threw a river of hot lava and produced thick clouds of smoke of almost 9.6 kilometers in the air. There are 1,7 million affected people, 3.265 evacuated, 1.687 shelteres, 46 wounded  and 33 dead according to CNN.

BUT WAIT

That’s not the only volcano threat at the moment. The volcanoes Santiaguito and Pacaya are currently active, praying for them to stay calm. Also, two earthquakes have been reported by Conred authorities.

What is the government doing about it?

In fact, they take profit from it, using this moment of tragedy to plan amnesty for illicit electoral financing. What did the president say about this yesterday?

"I'm embarrassed to say it, but the law prevents us from spending a single penny on this type of emergency" President Jimmy Morales added during the press conference in conjunction with CONRED.

What are we doing about it?

Whoever, as amazing as our government is (it isn’t), it’s not receiving the supplements other countries are sending us,  -  that’s  right -  our dear president is not currently accepting outer help ‘cause they have it “under control”.

Unusual Chile volcano activity sparks interest

A "unique" burst of activity at a little-known volcanic complex near the Chile-Argentina border has attracted the interest of international scientists and led worried governments to plan for a potentially devastating eruption.

The volcanic field at the Laguna del Maule, located in central Chile near the Argentine border, has risen around two meters (6.5 feet) since 2007, undergoing "uplift" at a rate and consistency that is unprecedented in recent history, scientists said.
