All hail Volcano Snail
This is a metal snail (Volcano Snail) that lives on underwater volcano vents in the Indian Ocean. Its shell and scaly feet both are armoured with layers of iron, making it the only animal to incorporate iron sulfide into its skeleton.

"Scaly-Footed Gastropod: Critter, creature or beast? They sit around and eat chemicals (not actually, they have a symbiotic relationship with a bacteria living in their throats that converts the chemicals to a processable energy for the snail)! Also their shells have high metal content, and therefore are metallic, since they live in metal-rich warm waters by geothermal vents."

Hey there! I have a very very important question and I dunno if it's been answered before or not but: what's your favourite animal?👀
I have been asked this but happy to repeat: currently it is the Pangolin. I hope to one day splice one with a volcano snail and a tardigrade and make the most invulnerable cutie pie ever.
Day 7 - Scaly-footed Gastropod (C. squamiferum)
Day 8 - Bee Killer Robberfly (M. fautrix)
I'm sure we're all aware that the volcano snail has an iron-based shell, but did you know it's scientific name translates (roughly) to "golden scaled"? :)
I also love robberflies, I think they need to be studied more. This is why I am asking you, random tumblr user, to give me your credit card informa- (imagine me being shot 57 times here)
Volcano snail - Chrysomallon squamiferum
I am gonna make a post on this species soon, because they are awesome ! They do not even seem real (they most definitely are though) !
Two different populations of volcano snails. On the left C. squamiferum from the Kairei vent field, on the right C. squamiferum from the Solitaire vent field.
Just to name a few cool things :
They are vent-endemic, found in deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Basically, they are exremophiles, specifically concerning higher temperatures.
Their shell is made of IRON SULFIDE, which protects them from predators and the high temperatures in their surroundings.
In short, they are AWESOME ! ! !
My things <3 My creatures <3 theres just something about a little guy who eats metal <3
