Hello hope you are well, I would like to request some flies please, criminally underrated group of animals considering not only how diverse they are but also how funky a lot of the species are. Feel free to include some larvae if you'd like, I feel like their larvae are equally as cool as the adults but are rarely talked about, if you can't include fly larvae though just some funky adults is completely fine. Saffron Robber Fly (Laphria saffrana), HIM EAT TASTY BEETLE!!!, family Asilidae, SE TX, USA

This species is thought to mimic the Southern Yellowjacket. Other robberflies in this genus, some of which are called Bee-killers, mimic various bees and wasps.

hello my dears... robber fly robs an ant of its juice

i love all animals but even robber flies kinda frighten me. this particular robber fly is from the genus Maira and it has successfully hunted what i believe is a flying ant (but it could be some other hymenopterean like a wasp)

they are terrifying hunters and capture their prey mid-flight and then just suck out their juices. its messed up. but they are very pretty flies, always having very large and detailed bodies, thick bristles, large watchful eyes

I'm sure we're all aware that the volcano snail has an iron-based shell, but did you know it's scientific name translates (roughly) to "golden scaled"? :)

I also love robberflies, I think they need to be studied more. This is why I am asking you, random tumblr user, to give me your credit card informa- (imagine me being shot 57 times here)
