I don't know if you said It already, but May i ask if the Volcurin do have certain extra features they gain off of the bird species they're based on? I Hope to be making sense

I understand, and yes they do have a lot of unique features that come from their avian-like anatomy! Here are some of their features: - High affinity for UV radiation

Volcurins do technically have hollow bones, but they’re extremely strong and not as prone to breaking as you’d expect. Either way, Volcs need a massive amount of Vitamin D and calcium to maintain these bones, muscles, and feathers (keratin). Because of this affinity, most volcurins are darker skinned. This adaptation also prevents skin damage from flying in direct sun.

- Unique Eyesight

Like birds of prey, Volcurins have incredible eyesight that gives them a much stronger range of view than humans do. They see the same light spectrum, but can see detail clearly from high above the ground. As a flying creature, their eyes have a unique ‘tear’ fluid that evaporates much slower than human tears, and they have an extra layer to their eye to make up for the lack of a nictitating membrane (this layer also affects their iris, so they have a huge variety of eye colors)

- Special Larynx

As we know, birds have very complex voice boxes that allow for a broad range of vocalizations. Volcurins have a sort of combination of a bird and human larynx. This allows them to make a range of noises, at a greater range of pitch. They can also get extremely loud, to allow communication during flight. Volcs use these vocalization abilities in their native speech.

- Control of Oxygen use and organ use

Volcurins have the involuntary ability to slow their organ functionality and oxygen use, specifically for flying at high altitudes. They can survive at ~25,000-30,000 feet in the air due to their ability to restrict their oxygen intake and glide on currents. (Yes this means a commercial plane could hit a volcurin)

- 6th sense

Not as cool as it sounds, but volcs have a very keen sense for pressure change. As any flying creature, air pressure is important and allows for proper flight. This also allows volcs to tell the weather forecast. Avi uses it to dive with her eyes closed and pull up in time to not hit the ground. She likes the thrill.

- Sharp teeth

A more simple adaptation. While fangs are useful for eating meats and showing aggression, Volcs have their teeth mainly to help them preen (replaces beaks). They use their sharper canines to dislodge pesky quills.

- Other general bird things?

They molt normally but also have Molting Seasons, which is a week or so of full molts of the flight feathers and base feathers (it’s itchy and it sucks), Bright and colorful feathers are more attractive, and men tend to dress up their appearance more (they sing and dance too but less formally). Some volcs have different wing shapes that give them different flight patterns, they’re very horny.

Meet Quinn and Clancy! These two are Volcurins (Created by Astral-Glass), who work together in a makeshift band! Quinn is considered an exceptional vocalist, while Clancy can’t sing to save her life. Clancy can, however, play a variety of instruments to varying degrees of skill. Over time, Quinn’s been teaching Clancy how to improve at singing, Clancy is a few inches taller than Quinn, and often makes jokes about how tiny she is because Clancy’s an asshole. She means well, though.

Clancy

Often coming across as brutish, Clancy is in-fact very passionate and cares deeply about Quinn. She is impulsive and acts as the polar opposite of Quinn in some cases. Pretty cocky and narcissistic at times, Clancy is essentially made of pure salt. She holds grudges very easily and acts on her feelings a little too hastily without thinking about the consequences. Since her voice isn’t one of her strong suits, Clancy took to learning various instruments to at least attempt to fit in somewhat. Some of those instruments include the Violin and the Guitar. Clancy had been going to the bar that Quinn works at for a while and had noticed her multiple times. Over that time she’d developed somewhat of a crush on Quinn but refuses to admit it. Often times when Quinn gets hit on by people, Clancy will get jealous easily. She never really acts on that jealousy unless she notices Quinn is uncomfortable, however. Although she comes across as confident and cocky at times, Clancy tends to be anxious about most things, especially things that involve Quinn.

Quinn

Quinn tends to be more softly spoken and quiet. She is self-conscious about almost everything, but Clancy insists she should perform more. She is pretty intelligent and often has to act as the mature one of the two. Quinn works at a live music bar, where she mainly performs but also tends to work as a bartender. It was here that she met Clancy, who was being kicked out for starting a fight. Quinn is usually unsure of how she feels about Clancy- She values her as a friend, but is also concerned about the impact associating with her will have on her social standing. She somewhat reciprocates the same feelings for Clancy, but would never admit it unless brought up by Clancy herself.

I’ve sorta been wondering, and this is especially because I’ve sorta wanted to make a Seeker OC myself too, is it possible for Volcurins to be nocturnal? Sorta been on my mind lately and I somewhat wanted to add that bit but I wasn’t sure if it is possible so I just decided to ask (sorry if my grammar isnt all that good, english isn’t exactly my first language)

EEE,,,IF U DO I’D LOVE TO SEE!! So, naturally, no. Volcurins are more strictly diurnal than humans, due to their bird-like internal clock. Volcurins often wake up before the sun rises, and sleep after it sets, just like birds. They are very sensitive to daylight.

BUT! A volcurin can absolutely become nocturnal on their own! They can mess their sleep schedule up for sure, but it would be inconsistent naturally.

HEEEEEEY i'm back at it again to nag you! I was wondering if there were SEABIRD Volcurins! Cuz uh, i know that they usually have big wings like possibly eagle-wings, but i'm feeling like the sheer size of a seabird wing on a humanoid would be too much to handle or actually function with. Anyway sorry to nag u again have a nice day

HEY no worries lol! So you basically answered it, there are no volcurins with sea-faring wings. This is for two reasons: - It is indeed beyond their biological limit to have, say, albatross proportioned wings. Too heavy, and it would cause them skeletal issues! - While their country does have a coast to the sea, the adaptation for sea-gliding wings did not develop, due to a lack of necessity. Eagle and falcon-winged volcs are the most adept sea flyers
