Sigurd slaying Fafnir
Sigurd & Gudrun read-along: 2nd week
This week (13-19 April) we will be reading another chunk of The Lay of the Volsungs from The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrun on the sigurd-and-gudrun-reading channel of the SWG Discord: sections II - V, with the relevant part of Commentary on the Lay of the Volsungs. Please do join the read-along at any time during the week, even if you weren’t around for the first week! You can comment in the channel at any time it suits you. The sections for this week: Section II: "Signy" Section III: “The Death of Sinfjotli” Section IV: "Sigurd Born" Section V: "Regin" In section II and III we follow the doom-ridden fate of earlier members of the royal family of the Volsungs before Sigurd. In section IV and V, Sigurd himself is born and kills the dragon, Fafnir, getting himself involved in the curse that lies on the dragon’s hoard.
We started the discussion and so far have been focussing on Signy especially: male relatives that really should have listened to you and a marriage that was a really bad idea, also women and magic and revenge in the Germanic tradition. If you’re interested in these subjects, have a look!

3. What position do you normally sleep in?
On my side, or very rarely on my stomach. And I cuddle up to a pillow qqq.
14. Do you prefer to read poetry, write poetry or neither?
Uh, I’ve written a couple of short “poems” I guess on my Final Fantasy XIV blog, for like character description / depth. But I prefer to read. But I’m not very big on poems either. I’m more of a quote kind of gal.
30. How’s the weather right now?
Well in New Zealand it’s summer but it’s not as hot and humid today as it has been lately. Sunny with a bit of clouds so far, maybe a shower later, it’s only mid morning so it will be icky and humid this arvo.
47. What’s your favourite series of books?
Ahhhh, Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn. I read most of them as a teen. (lmao showing my age..)
I actually own most of them except for the very last one. I have them in hardback. I need to re-read the series it’s been nearly 10 years since I last read them.
Also, if that anon has time on their hands, I highly suggest watching EpicNameBro's playthrough of bloodborne. He worked on the official guide for bloodborne and dks 2 and he makes a lot of good lore points in all of his souls game playthroughs... his channel was part of the reason i got into souls games. c:
Definitely! So, if you’re into Let’s Play-like videos then watch these.Might be a bit longer, but you’ll get a lot of Insight :D
