About Oc: Ellie Dee is a Date Everything oc who is based off LED lights, hence the name. Ive had her since I bought the game i think last year? Havent played it in a while but i started the process of making her when the game was really really popular and everyone was playing it. Honestly i never continued to really expand on her so shes more of a WIP oc but even then i had enough to make an edit and think of a ship, the only new things are what she would look like plus the abbreviations in the edit.

hello date everything fandom, the breaker box lives rent free in mt brain and i think exploring volt through the framework of him literally being older than eddie through the concept that eddie is wires and volt is electricity is so fascinating.
thoughts under the cut bc it got long
so, we have a couple of datables who are on the more primordial side, and some who represent items that are outside of the grasp of humanity, yet are sort of inexplicably tied to humanity. airyn, river, doug, daemon, nightmare, reggie, and shadowlord are all in this loose category of existing before humans/having been perceived by humans but never really being named. they sort of transcend humanity, as it were.
dante, mitchell, willi, dolly, lady memoria, and monique all fall into this category of being more primordial/generally older than humanity, but don't predate humanity.
all of them, though, are all either consciously aware that they are primordial/are closely rooted to primordial concepts that transcend humanity, or at least subconsciously (maybe not monique as much, but she's in here too bc money is a vague concept that's tied to barter and exchange and I can see that as a bit primordial). it's this feeling of being bigger than how they are represented in the house, but it's not actually a bad thing. it's a depth, an ache in their bones that they're just a little more than just a fireplace or a dust bunny or food or money.
not all of them know the others are primordial, though. the only ones who know about the others are doug, shadowlord, nightmare, and daemon. airyn and reggie, probably, too (river is a bit of an offshoot of winnifred, which is why she is not included, based on my lacklustre understanding of hers and winnifred's routes). these guys have a tacit understanding that they know the others know they're bigger than their representations, but to address it is to breach a fundamental secret of the universe. (doug has no scruples about bending this rule- a guideline, more like- but it's more of a question if he really care enough to shake the beehive).
anyways, all this to say, volt is the odd one out because he is a direct offshoot of eddie in spite of having existed for much, much longer than eddie has. he's consciously and unconsciously suppressed his memories as a primordial spirit, even though he would genuinely benefit from knowing who he was before eddie. he is bigger, older, than any of them, and yet he behaves so young. he's supposed to be so much older than he is, but he's not because he became attached to a human. he should be similar airyn or river, but isn't bc he suppressed that part of himself. we see it briefly in his hate ending, when you piss him off enough to actually channel electricity through his entire being, because he is electricity.
yes, he chose to follow eddie. yes, canonically eddie made him. but electricity will always be older than the wires that move him
consider this: in the time before eddie, he never really considered being corporeal, being rather satisfied with being the storms that humans sheltered from. it was amusing, but in a way that a child might observe ants. cute. quaint.
but then humans started to harness him, understand him, and instead of resisting, he followed, curious. he is a laid back type of person. frightening, but relaxed. he understanding of eddie was something that was just as much as a part of him- a direction for volt to go- as he was part of eddie.
eddie was a tether. a way to understand humanity. and volt fell head over heels in love.
he's always been a loud being. flashy, as is part of his nature. falling in love the way he did was just as easy as breathing. but loving like a human is vastly different compared to loving as a primordial concept, and he gets protective. dangerously tempermental, especially because he's forgotten who he was, as a choice. he wants to help eddie. he can take on so much of Eddie's burden, and he'll do it with nary a concern!
eddie is more human than volt, having been created by humans, for humans. that's what separates them. they are linked- eddie having created volt, but he called upon something much larger than himself. and volt answered.
what defines a human? he thought humanity was simple, a chasing of one's desires. but it's instead so... complicated and messy and something he dives into with all his heart. he can't ever do things by halves. lightning will either strike, or it won't.
