Alien AU: Lance
Apologies for those who wanted diverse aliens out of the conventional alien AUs, but Lance is, predictably, Altean 😔.
However, there are things about him that are noticeably less predictable.
Background and family history
Lance’s (paternal) grandmother became a space explorer/cadet against the will of her family, but was captured/abducted (similarly to Shiro) by the Galra/Zarkon’s forces
She manages to escape using stolen tech but unfortunately crash lands on a foreign planet
She stays on the planet and adapts to the civilization/life there
Lance’s paternal grandmother was part of a revolt/mass escape that took place within Lotor’s “Altean colony” (his second colony, the one hosting the experiments/extractions)
Lotor had all escape pods/flee ships taken down, whether they were attacked from the sky or being captured back to the colony
Ships that were taken down from the sky (shot/bombed) were left to be abandoned after the life signal detectors were no longer working/destroyed, as a lack of response from the detectors meant an automatic assumption that whoever was on the ship didn’t make it
That was not the case for a portion of the ships/pods, as their life detectors were simply broken, along with multiple other parts of their spacecrafts, causing them to crash land on a foreign planet
You can see where this is going; the grandparents meet as the Altean refugees are trying to settle down, and the human grandmother befriends the grandfather, and the rest is history (I’ll expand on their story in the future)
Lance’s maternal side is comprised entirely of Altean refugees, so his mother’s side is “pure” Altean
Lance’s story
Lance inherits his paternal grandmother’s blonde hair along with the common Altean blue eyes
He is the only one in his family to do so, as the rest of his siblings have either just the blue eyes with brown hair, or blonde hair without the blue eyes
Due to this, he is often mistaken for Altean royalty when people see his features, as his platinum blond hair is light enough that people often mistake it for the silver hair of Altean royal blood, especially in less well lit areas/mid lighting
The whole reason why he’s on the run when the story starts is because at the age of 15, he was abducted by paranoid survivors/refugees who were convinced that Lotor knew about their survival, and planned to use Lance as sacrifice/leverage under the impression that he was “hidden Altean royalty”
He manages to escape but gets lost and ends up discovering the existence of an illegal intergalactic/inter species/racial society, completely hidden away from public eye and only known to those unbound by the law (this will be explained in the future)
He eventually finds his way back home, but the abductors manage to track him down using an ability/mark placed on him. His sisters are able to dispel the “mark” but a fight ultimately breaks out as the criminals attempt to recapture him
His family is able to stop the criminals and turn them in to authorities, but Lance is deeply unsettled by this experience (having been kidnapped, especially by the people he least expected: his own kind)
A year later he makes up his mind; he knows his family isn`t able to protect him forever, and danger has been chasing him ever since the incident. Staying near his family will only endanger them, so he sets out on a journey, with no particular goal except trying to lure the danger away from his family
He returns to the illegal society he had discovered for a starting place and guidance
It’s here that he now frequents, as he’s able to earn all his necessities here; information is easy to come by though gossip, and he’s able to take up job/commision posts to make easy money, all while being able to hide himself with a cloak without being questioned or found suspicious (it’s easy to fake who you are when everyone around you is faking who they are)
Character facts
Lance does in fact, still keep contact with his family. He carries around a communicator (modded to hide its signal from being caught on public lines/servers) which he uses quite often, sending messages and making calls whenever he can
He’s physically stronger than the average Altean, which is quite impressive, but still no match for the likes of the some of the dangers chasing him. However, he wields an incredibly fluid and agile combat style, nimble and precise moves veiled by deceptive grace
He’s exceptionally good at using his surrounding, having amazing environmental improvisation skills, and fights less with bloodlust and more with tricks, playing with his opponents like predators playing with prey before they eat
He frequently pulls acrobatic moves as well as feints/slights of hand, in intention to mess with his enemy by not matching their expectations
He’s a good interrogator, able to keep a calm yet intimidating gaze when needed, but also a great actor
While he’s not a flirty and goofy as we know him to be, he’s still just as sassy, often throwing out sarcastic comments and witty one liners
