Okay, but let's consider this, lance is a strategist and fast learner, adaptable and knows his way with people and how to get out of tight situations. Essentially he is an asset to whoever he works with.

BUT, langst exists, so the team doesn't give this attention, demeans and dumbs him down to a flirty guy that always cracks joke/never takes things seriously.

The team has gone on to believe that, but the Blade of Marmora has regarded him highly from the start.

So when the BoM and voltron are planning a retrieval mission or smth, theyre stuck on hiw to get past security. But it soon becomes a late night and they're tired beyond belief, finally going to bed because they cannot think anymore, leaving the Blade of Marmora to planning (though some do leave for bed asw, so Kolivan, Krolia and some others remain cos theyre used to it). And Lance stays with them, because he wouldn't have been able to sleep anyways.

And when the team wakes up the next castle equivalent of a morning, fully prepared to be stressing about this mission planning, they stumble into the planning room with Lance and the BoM comfortably discussing things.

And on the table in the centre, is the item they were going to retrieve, what the whole mission planning was for. So now they're confused, until Kolivan speaks up and goes:

Kolivan: Paladins, I hoped you slept well.

Allura: We did, though I fear we may be dreaming. How is the [item] here?

Kolivan: The Red Paladin had gone and done the mission, successfully as well. Truly skilled Paladin I must say.

Random BoM: Oh yeah, right after you guys went to bed, Kolivan asked Lance is he had any ideas, and damn did he have any.

Krolia: It is true, Lance pointed out every error and found a solution within minutes. And even went to complete it all on his own.

Lance (who cannot take compliments for the life of him): Yeah... it wasn't that hard? It was actually pretty quick, and I already knew how it would go so...

And the team just stares at him, honest to God shocked. Except Keith. Keith stares at Lance with familiar eyes and a knowing look but still in awe —because ofc he'd know, that guy is his right hand, but he's still so amazing. He also stares at lance thinking "Fuck, I'm so gay for him."

I feel like the paladins probably use an absurd mix of outdated slang from earth and random alien phrases and they dont even notice how insane it sounds until they return to the garrison and get strange looks from everyone.
