But your opinion isn't the be-all and end-all, just because you say it makes no sense or wouldn't be enjoyable doesn't mean that's the case for everyone. Personally, I find the actual people inside the robot a lot more interesting than the robot itself. VLD has a mixture of both, and introducing a romance wouldn't take away from that.
First, I’ve never said my opinion was the be-all end-all.
Second, the mixture has clearly swung towards boring hand to hand fights and character interactions over the giant robot that the show is named after, which is the entire damn point. Most of the characters at this point are one-dimensional stereotypes not allowed to develop or who develop and then quickly turn back. If they disliked the robot so much, they shouldn’t have rebooted a show about a giant robot!
As for the romance, yes, it would take away from the action. The show is already doing everything in its power to reduce the amount of action present at all times, and honestly, it doesn’t seem to know what to do with the robot at this point, because it views the robot as an obstruction to the hand-to-hand scenes or more Hunk food jokes; truly riveting television.
Now you would need to add in this new element, and it’s obvious that they clearly put more stock in the hand to hand fights and the food jokes/Lance flirting jokes because they’re cheaper to do and they have no idea what to do with the robot anyway. So yeah, a show with minimal action would lose it even more for a romance. Not to mention that since it wouldn’t be a gay romance, I’d have to shuffle through another thousand posts a week about how the showrunners are homophobic and transphobic when they’re just completely in over their heads trying to write a giant robot story. How does Build Fighters get this right and Voltron constantly screw it up? Was all the heavy lifting on Last Airbender done by Aaron Eihaz?
