their voice sounds blurry. if he’d detected any panic, any fear, he’d have been on his feet at once — he knows their cabin is properly grounded for lightning summoners, but he fears accidentally burning someone in his sleep regardless. his nightmares lend to that fear, unfortunately. ( and there is no comfort in knowing lightning might not hurt lui. none. )

but, he pulls a hand up to scrub the sleep out of his eyes, and it comes back wet. he squints through the pitch black to find lui’s shape in their bed, and can’t see them — hopefully, that means they can’t see him either. jason takes a deep breath, finds it shaky and loud, and drops his face into his hands to muffle the sound.
