The UK cost of living crisis has pushed families to the brink. It is deeply saddening that on #teachersstrike day we had schools open to ensure children received lunch as it’s no secret that for many this is the only significant and nutritious meal of the day. Yes, I hear gasping from the back rows and can confirm that this is not an extract from a Dickens novel. Pop up food banks are now pretty much a regular feature of our lives and are accessed by people of all diverse backgrounds and is no longer the preserve of the homeless, unemployed or those seeking refuge. Through Bookbike London #homeless outreach I am now in contact with people who would normally be recognised as “middle class,” people who were comfortable but now crippled by severe financial hardship. Food packs shared with #homeless friends, rough sleepers, and families facing hardship in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Barking & Dagenham. Great networking with @hankin1966 and @rosief_98 - Teamwork is the most effective work! #bookbikelondon #thewanderinglondoner #volunteermore #foodpoverty #endpoverty #popupfooddrop #teachersstrikeday #schooldinners #homelesspeople #homelessness #povertyreduction #helpthehomeless #doinggood #foodpantry #foodinsecurity #foodbanks #endhunger #feedthehungry #bangabandhuschool #popupfoodbank #feedthehungry #giftoftime (at Bangabandhu Primary School) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoIWmIyoItO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
