We like to post about gaming news around here, especially if it’s a company that you might be meeting-and-greeting at conventions, now that gaming is well and truly ensconced at such things. This latest release is a little of out of our remit as the team behind MANTIS BURN RACING will unlikely ever set foot on the San Diego Convention Center floor – because from where they’re based, it’s a bit of a trek.

Birmingham-based indie developer VooFoo Studios – and that’s Birmingham, Midlands UK, not Birmingham, Alabama – have announced the launch of their award nominated top-down racing game, available in the Nintendo Switch eShop. And reading their press release and looking the launch trailer (above), it sounds like a blast.

MANTIS BURN RACING is a modern top-down style racing game that combines physics-based gameplay with intuitive arcade racing in highly competitive, fast and addictive races. Get ready to prove your driving skills in 5 unique classes of vehicles over an epic 11-season single-player career with more than 150 events and 13 event types in frenetic, bumper-to-bumper races where winning is everything!

“MANTIS BURN RACING on Switch features all the upgrades and content released to date in the biggest and best version of the game” said Mark Williams, Technology Director at VooFoo Studios. “The game is all about fun, fast, competitive racing and with added support for Switch specific features like Local Multiplayer and our ‘Cross-Table’ mode; it’s a perfect fit for Nintendo gamers at home or on the go.”

When it comes to the Xbox One, VooFoo Studios is one of my favourite developers. They were the first to bring us an outstanding pool title and then came the first Texas hold-em to grace the console. Moving away from popular past time games, VooFoo Studios have entered the top down racing genre with their first self-published title Mantis Burn Racing. This may not be Micro Machines but it sure does come close, probably the closest we have on the Xbox One.
