Best squash game by Squash World No.1 Elshorbagy (Egypt) ever? This game might well be the highlight of Elshorbagy’s young career. Yes, Elshorbagy likely has thousands of professional games at no.1 remaining, however the number of mind-numbing accurate shots and graceful-ballet like court craft in one game is both talent and inch perfect luck. Cuskelly (Australia) was potentially having the tournament of his life, and for Elshorabagy to beat him so convincingly was a freak of nature. Gautier and Mathews would have taken as severe of a beating given their current state of play. For pure circus amazement watch this game to appreciate the freakish dexterity of Elshorbagy (long may his pure genetic skill reign!). Written by @DFFlanders

Nick Matthew column: Squash will continue to keep pushing for Olympic recognition

Around this time of year, there are quite a few athletes trying to qualify for next summer’s Rio 2016 Olympics, including swimmers, cyclists and boxers.

I really do think that squash will be one of the hit sports at the 2020 Olympics because of the ability to watch the sport via mobile devices (iPads, tablets, etc) in high definition.  

It’s also a great statistics sport, really great to think analyse the data for how to win.

Welcome to this blog

I started this blog to keep track of my progress in how I am learning to play squash.  I began squash about a year ago, having played racket ball for a good numbers of years since University.  Since then I’ve come to greatly appreciate the “war of attrition” that is squash, especially the “court craft” required to play this excellent sport. 

I hope to record little things I learn as I play squash.  Much like a golf swing or Tennis swing the ability to remember the little details that make up your swing is essential to maintain your level of play.

I believe there to be a great potential for squash as a spectator sport in the future because of the invention of streaming video services like YouTube which can broadcast in Ultra High Definition making it possible to watch the squash ball as it flies up to speeds of 175mph(280kph).

Baseball and softball could inch closer to inclusion in 2020 Olympics

SOCHI, Russia — The International Olympic Committee could take another step this week toward getting baseball and women’s softball back into the Olympics as well as adding squash for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.

With the interview out of the way, Sam Cornett invites an out-of-shape reporter to a pick-up game of squash and laughs as he chases down impossibly hard-to-get shots around the deceptively small court.

Sadistic streak aside, Cornett is pretty friendly and seems like a regular 22-year-old, not giving any hints she’s actually Canada’s top-ranked female squash player.
