In the wake of last night’s tragedy, I’m filled with so many conflicting emotions. My heart is breaking for those lost or injured and their friends and families. But I’m also frustrated and angry that all they’ll get for their troubles are thoughts and prayers. I don’t own a gun, but I don’t care if you own a gun responsibly; what I care about is that we can’t even pass the most basic, rudimentary gun control laws to limit these kinds of things from happening.

Thoughts and prays did nothing after Sandy Hook; after Charleston; after San Bernardino; after Pulse and countless others. And every time I see an elected official offering their thoughts and prayers, I get more angry. It’s just lip service. Fucking do something productive about it or just admit you care less about your constituents than you do about the lobbyists keeping you in office.

There is no perfect solution. And criminals will always find a way, but this doesn’t preclude doing whatever we can to limit these kinds of things from happening. To paraphrase the pic, ‘It’s important…to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.’
