The NAACP lobbies for bills that they want passed by Congress. They also use their prominent history and reputation to push their ideas into the media. They pressured Congress into passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

In 1868 #AfricanAmericans were not allowed to Vote. In 1869 the 19th amendment passed in congress (after decades of rejection) gave African American (Men) the right to vote, but wasn't ratified until February 3, 1870 For the next 95 years African Americans were systematically kept from voting due to suppression, disenfranchisement, re-districting & discrimination due to prejudice until the voting rights act of 1965 was passed. With that said it's clear people only appreciate things when they lose them. Take away a man's freedom & you'll see him fight for it.
