hey! how do i get into homestuck? it just seems really cool ! love ur blog btw
Okay so !! There are two ways to get into Homestuck, at time of writing :
One of them is just going to homestuck.com and reading it there straight on. This can be hard to do since act 1, while good, has a reputation for being slow. You will have to read it at some point anyway, but if you want to know if Homestuck is something you’d enjoy it might not be the best way. I would not advise skipping act 1 even if it gets boring tho, since it establishes a lot of things about the world and characters that become relevant later on (it also establishes stuff that’s never used again because that’s how it be, but that doesn’t justify skipping it entirely imo). Or you could just skip to Hivebent (starting page 1989, ending page 2624) like everybody did in the golden days and then go back to the beginning. If you do that you will be spoiled but honestly the people who don’t know who the trolls are at this point are so rare it’s not that big a deal.
Option 2 is playing or watching let’s plays of Hiveswap and Hiveswap Friendsim. The tone of these games are in line with what the comics ended up being, and if you like them you’ll definitely like Homestuck. Hiveswap proper is a simple point & click, and Hiveswap : Friendsim is a visual novel, so no mad game skillz are required to play them ! They’re newbie friendly and you don’t need to know ANYTHING about Homestuck to understand what’s happening, but playing them after having read Homestuck will definitely make some of the more cryptic stuff clearer. I’ve gotten a few friends into Homestuck through Hiveswap, and Hiveswap Act 2 might be coming this month (if cryptic tweets from the official Homestuck account are to be believed) so now is the best way to get into these games !
If you want to find other homestuckies and interact with the community, I’d recommend you get a Twitter account if you don’t already have one. That’s where most homestuckies are nowadays, and as said above it’s a good way to stay up to date with upd8.
And after you’ve done all that, read Vast Error.
