Tepito Coffee, 695 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91101, Score: 30/50
Tepito Coffee took over the Jones Coffee space inside Vroman’s and opened in early December 2022. They specialize in coffee beans grown in Mexico and roasted in East LA. The coffee served at Tepito Coffee is produced in Boca del Monte, a small rural town located in the state of Veracruz, México characterized by subtropical forest. The beans are medium roast.
Food: 4/5 –For food, they have salads in the refrigerated case, breakfast burritos, and a few pastries (cookies, empanada, concha). There is no kitchen but they can warm the pastries for you. The pan de elote was moist and not too sweet.
Coffee: 4/5 – They offer espresso drinks, café de olla, cold brew, house pour over, specialty pour over, nitro brew, and more. The latte was well-made with gorgeous foam art. It was not weak, watered down or bitter. Mr. Froyo said his pour over was good but not the best in town.
Wi-fi: 3/5 – Free, unlimited, password posted at the register. The connection is not secure though.
Ambiance: 3/5 – Cozy, it’s inside a bookstore. Small interior, lots of people sitting for long periods of time. Some plants.
Noise: 3/5 – Music inside is loud but the jazz doesn’t bother me as much. Colorado Blvd is a busy street, so you’ll hear traffic if you sit outside.
Plugs: 1/5 – Only saw one
Parking: 2/5 – Vroman’s has parking behind the store but it’s limited to 90 minutes. Can be tough to find parking in this area. There’s street parking but it’s limited to one hour.
Comfort: 3/5 – Small tables, chairs are metal and not padded. Can fit 14 people inside. Four small tables outside can accommodate 8 more.
Bathroom: 3/5 – None inside the coffeehouse but Vroman’s has some
Art: 4/5 – Mural of Mexican woman with coffee beans, b & w photos of coffee growers
Tips: Can be crowded and hard to find seating. Closed on Mondays. Open late except on Sundays.
