"STAGE AND CINEMA"
by Kenton Nelson
Founded in 1917 and initially sharing performance space with a burlesque house, proprietor Gilmor Brown raised money from more than 1,000 supporters and eight years later the doors of opened to the historic @PasadenaPlayhouse on S. El Molino. Raised in Los Angeles, Kenton Nelson has had his art studio in Pasadena for 35 years and has become something of a hometown hero for his "figures, landscape, and architecture bathed in light" that capture the very essence of Pasadena and its rich history. In 2016 as the Playhouse neared its centennial celebration Nelson translated his sublime art into mosaic—presumably for longevity—and created this wall a block north behind @VromansBookstore. Nelson also created a neighboring kiosk celebrating the Playhouse's many actors, directors, and production staff who helped shape California's movie industry. @kenton_nelson/
